This was a brilliant, quirky place to stay. The hosts were very friendly and helpful, the location was brilliant-just off the town square. The carriage bed was comfortable, The garden was beautiful, everything was clean and there was a surprisingly functional kitchen for the size. We loved that a lot of the original features of the train were preserved, and we learned some very interesting history from one of the hosts. It was very easy to get the keys, and the hosts communicated with us before and throughout our stay. There is only one parking space, which does have an electric charger, but there is free parking nearby in the black swan, and paid parking in the Cleveland way carpark, which also has electric chargers. Helmsley is great, there is so much to do

This is a jewel of a find. This is a lovely little cottage in the beautiful gardens of a bigger cottage. It is in a very quiet location, but adjacent to a nice pub. The area around the cottage was secure for our dog. The property was immaculately clean and the bed is the most comfortable I have ever slept in, including my own. I would go back just to sleep in this again! The bathroom was beautiful and the shower very powerful and refreshing. The village is very pretty and quiet and we only scratched the surface for dog walking in the area. Will definitely be back to explore more.

This is a reasonable sized residential village but with very...

This is a reasonable sized residential village but with very little to attract the visitor. Apart from two pubs (neither of which we visited), a tearoom and a small post office/general store which was poorly stocked, we can't recommend it for a stay. Nearby Helmsley - 10 miles north - is far prettier and provides excellent access to shops/cafes/pubs and is the perfect starting point for visiting the eastern dales and coastline. The only positive was the beautiful Ampleforth Abbey and it's grounds and lovely cafe.

Beautiful village with two pubs and a well equipped shop.

Beautiful village with two pubs and a well equipped shop. We had a drink and dinner at the White Swan and it is a beauitful pub with a lovely area to sit out the back and the food was amazing. I used the general store which seemed to have basic needs and more. The surrounding countryside is beautiful and its worth to visit the Ampleforth Abbey.
