Beautiful property- I loved the sitting in the lounge with the fires going. I had an issue with my cell phone not working and the staff helped me sort out an urgent issue - above and beyond the call of duty!

The staff were brilliant. Welcoming as soon as we walked in. They all had a busy afternoon with lunch, but were still able to make people checking in feel welcomed. Lauren and her team (Imogen, Freddy and Ollie) were very accommodating and would highly recommend going back.

We had a wonderful stay at Burleigh Court, from the moment of arrival, with a lovely welcome, to the relaxed checkout when we alas had to leave! After arrival, we really enjoyed relaxing in the lovely atmosphere in the lounge, with a wide range of options in the well-stocked bar - including, hurrah!, a selection of Stroud Brewery beers! Then a delicious dinner in the 2-rosette restaurant, which exceeded our expectations - every single element was delicious and generous. With a wonderful wine selection, it felt very special. It is no wonder that the Burleigh Court restaurant has such a fabulous reputation in this part of Gloucestershire. And then a very restful night's sleep in our courtyard room. If it was slightly less damp weather we would have taken advantage of the sauna and plunge pool next to the room. And then up for a wonderful breakfast - beautiful locally-sourced products - fabulous sausage and bacon in particular - and a lovely selection of cereals, yoghurts and fruits - all served in the lovely dining room. And, most of all, the wonderful team. Everyone working at Burleigh Court has a wonderful manner - attentive but not OTT, and all committed to creating a lovely experience. We think that Burleigh Court is a wonderful place to stay and enjoy!

What Guests Said About Painswick:

Scored out of 10, guest rating 10

A lovely quaint village with narrow streets.

A lovely quaint village with narrow streets. Walking around the houses are named after what they used to be: ‘The Court House’, ‘The Nurses House’ etc. The lovely Church has an ancient Churchyard, plenty of pathways through it and lots of yew trees. The bell ringers must practice on a Thursday evening which finished at 9pm, lovely sound. There aren’t many shops but there is a corner store, library, pub, restaurant, cafe, market day on Thursdays, fabric shop and a gift shop.

A disappointing village with very little to see and do.

A disappointing village with very little to see and do. It was quaint with beautiful buildings but that is all. We wanted to visit The Rococo Gardens especially but incorrect opening times were given online and it was closed on Mondays and Tuesdays which meant we couldn’t see them and didn’t realise until we arrived. I’d checked before I set off and read that it was open.

Painswick is a delightful base for touring the Cotswolds. Great hiking. great food. The church and the hundreds years old Yews were perfectly quaint. It is also less touristy and it is quiet, which we appreciated. Beware of very narrow roads.

Painswick feels like a beautiful fairytale village, with honey-coloured Cotswold stone buildings and a wonderfully timeless feel. It is like stepping into another world. There are several lovely cafés, scenic walks right on the doorstep, and a real sense of calm and charm throughout the village. The churchyard is particularly special and surprisingly moving, with its famous 99 ancient yew trees creating a peaceful and almost mystical atmosphere. It is an idyllic place to wander, pause, and simply take it all in. What wasn’t the best - Very little, to be honest. Painswick is quiet and tranquil, so anyone looking for nightlife or a bustling town atmosphere might find it too peaceful. That said, for rest, reflection, and classic Cotswolds beauty, it is hard to fault.

Painswick is a quaint beautiful town. The Rococo Gardens are stunning and we visited the church but I didn't snap photos of it. The restaurant at The Painswick is excellent. Loved the Beef Wellington and the halibut. Both nights I hoped to be able to manage dessert but could not eat another bite!
