The staff was really kind and helpful. The receptionist who was there upon our arrival, shows us on the map what we can do because the weather conditions wasn’t good for the things that we have planed to do. The food in the restaurant was good and also the breakfast has many options to choose. The bed was comfortable and we have a huge window right across in order to see the sky. Till now it was the best hotel in Iceland!

Hella imo is a good base for trips to the highlands and has everything you need (restaurants, petrol sttion, bakery, supermarket (small)- going to the highlands these all get very scarce - so as said - a good base and compromise that you buy with ~ 30 mins more driving time - further 'in' you need to fill up before you go (tank, supplies)

Our experience at Leirukot was extremely disappointing from start to finish. We chose this accommodation partly because of the advertised facilities, but the lagoon was not in the condition we reasonably expected. We reported the issue immediately, expecting a prompt and professional response. Instead, we experienced poor communication, delays, and a frustrating lack of urgency. What happened afterward was even more disappointing. We were told that a partial refund would be issued, but days passed and we discovered it had not even been processed. We had to follow up ourselves before the refund was finally sent. Although the refund was eventually received, that did not change our overall experience. The accommodation issue had already affected our stay, and the way the situation was handled only made things worse. To make matters even more uncomfortable, after the refund was finally processed, the owner continued contacting me and asking me to change our review. Reviews are meant to reflect a guest's genuine experience, not to be negotiated after the fact. We believe customers should be free to share honest feedback without feeling pressured. Mistakes can happen at any accommodation. What matters is how they are handled. Unfortunately, the communication, customer service, and follow-through we experienced fell well below what we expected. Based on our experience, we cannot recommend Leirukot and would not choose to stay there again.

I loved the calm and quiet. The purple Lupine were in bloom.

I loved the calm and quiet. The purple Lupine were in bloom. The skies were wide and open. We ate at a good local restaurant hotel. We checked out the Secret Lagoon on our way to Hella and would consider going there next time.

A small and quiet town between the capitol of Iceland and...

A small and quiet town between the capitol of Iceland and some of the main tourist sites. Right on the way to Skógafoss and Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon, and Diamond Beach. There is a street food truck run by a nice man and woman. Definitely check it out!

Such a fab place to stay. Waterfall up the road.

Such a fab place to stay. Waterfall up the road. The ferry to the Waterman Islands is 30 mins away; you must visit the puffin and Beluga sanctuary on the islands. You have Vik only an hour away and you see volcanos and mountains everywhere you look. The airport is 1hr45mins away and a wonderful drive. I would happily stay here again.

Hella a bit sparse.

Hella a bit sparse. No good restaurants that we found and they stop serving at 9pm. Not much to Hella but it was in the countryside and we saw the Northern Lights. Our hotel was well lit so we could find it but they would not turn off the lights to view the Northern Lights better.

I love the location next to the river. It was so nice and quiet. The cabin/bungalow was compact and has all basic necessities. Due to the good weather, I was able to see the nothern lights from the river bank. And in a country like Iceland, it was nice to stay at a more affordable place. Price/quality for this place is good.

The Legendary Hotel Hella is great value for money. It doesn't have an amazing breakfast, but it's good for the price, especially when compared to other places in Iceland. Beds are comfortable, heating worked well, good shower.
