The staff was really kind and helpful. The receptionist who was there upon our arrival, shows us on the map what we can do because the weather conditions wasn’t good for the things that we have planed to do. The food in the restaurant was good and also the breakfast has many options to choose. The bed was comfortable and we have a huge window right across in order to see the sky. Till now it was the best hotel in Iceland!

Everything, the location, how comfortable and big the room was. Outdoor spa was just amazing, perfect place to relax whilst admiring the surroundings. It was open till late, which was great to be able to use it after dinner. We had lovely dinner at the restaurant that was serving delicious local food. But most of all, we were very impressed with staff. They were super nice and helpful.

The beds were very comfortable. Complementary breakfast was very good with some vegtables and fruits and a good gluten free bread. Location is great. Just next to the town center. Receptionist was very nice. She loaned me an HDMI cable and made a resturant reservation. We got a room facing the street but the double windiws blocked the noise.

The black sand beaches and horses and lava show and puffins and glacier walk make this a must-see place! It's much colder and windier than the rest of the south, but if you're ready, then great! Good hot chocolate and coffee and shopping, and a nice soup restaurant near the lava show. Puffins were a definite highlight. Need a car to access everything except nearby beach and market.

DO NOT STAY HERE! Avoid it! Go elsewhere!

DO NOT STAY HERE! Avoid it! Go elsewhere! WORST PLACE WE STAYED IN ICELAND!!!!!!! Our room was not cleaned. Dirty towels all over the room, soiled linens, pillows on the floor, the room smelled musky...and no one even answered the after hours number to help us out. We called them 5 times, we messaged them on WhatsApp 4 times, we texted them 5 times, and we emailed them 6 times in the span of an hour with absolutely NO RESPONSE! Totally ghosted. So after 90 minutes, we had to figure out alternate arrangements all on our own. We finally got an email from Vladimir the next day, saying they will do an investigation to see what happened. Geez, really? Wow, thanks...how the hell does that help us?!? They later said "Sorry, it was totally their fault"?!?! Like it was MY fault? Thanks Captain Obvious! WTF!! When I asked for a refund, they refused to refund ANY portion of our stay, until I insisted, and then it was only a 20% offer. (Seriously?!?) So, I reached out to Booking.com and they were even less helpful. And the biggest kick in the head? Selfoss Hostel said, "nah we're not going to refund anything because you reached out to Booking.com" This place is brutal. Why have an afterhours number to help people and not answer it. Why promise a refund and then renege? And for crying out loud...why not have a room cleaned with fresh linens when you already left a key for that room?!?! And if they decide to reply to this complaint, don't believe what they write. I have email and message receipts to back up everything I wrote above! Avoid Selfoss Hostel!

Hella imo is a good base for trips to the highlands and has everything you need (restaurants, petrol sttion, bakery, supermarket (small)- going to the highlands these all get very scarce - so as said - a good base and compromise that you buy with ~ 30 mins more driving time - further 'in' you need to fill up before you go (tank, supplies)

Iceland is a very expensive place to travel and this guest house was average price for Iceland but the quality of the rooms were low average. Our room had such a bad slope on it we had to sleep at the other end of the bed with our heads above our feet. The bathroom had a toilet in the middle of the room, you had to walk around it to get to the shower and even though the room came with breakfast included it was very poor quality.
