It’s very quite. The staff is very very nice. Very nice experience for me and my mom to come to this bungalow. The food is good taste but a little bit simple, because there is only one chef for cooking and she’s a local. However we enjoy the food

We spent 5 wonderful days at Firefly Resort in Semporna and truly loved every moment. Nestled within a palm tree plantation, the resort feels like a peaceful escape far from the city’s noise. The lush garden surrounding the property creates a jungle-like atmosphere, filled with flowers, birdsong, playful squirrels, and fireflies that light up the night sky. The rooms are spacious and clean, the restaurant serves absolutely delicious food, and the owner is incredibly kind and helpful with anything you need. With a free shuttle to town and laundry facilities available, everything is thoughtfully arranged. We highly recommend this hidden gem!

The hotel is ok but feels overpriced. It’s probably because it is in a very touristy town full of Chinese with money to spend. The building is older and it shows but the room was clean and the young people at the reception were sweet and very helpful.

The best place to stay in Semporna. It is extremely clean and all the staff are very friendly. We stayed there twice because of their high cleanliness standards. Our room didn’t have a window, but the lighting was well designed for the room. The location was perfect (a quick walk to the jetty, close to food, laundry mat, and bus station).

There’s not a lot to do or see in Sempora.

There’s not a lot to do or see in Sempora. It’s a jump off spot to local diving and islands. The best coffee I found is at McDonalds. Good idea to get cash before you get there, lines at ATMs can be n hour long. Wise red worked a treat for eftpos. Small supermarkets have everything you need with a variety of eating places

Once a humble coastal town, it’s now becoming increasingly tourist-oriented. Seafood tends to be on the pricier side unless you’re skilled at bargaining. Diving here offers mostly smaller marine life, especially when compared to the vibrant underwater scenes of the Maldives. Night dives aren’t permitted unless you’re staying at one of the pricier water resorts that offer in-house diving. It’s fine for a short getaway, but there’s not much in the way of standout attractions or culinary experiences.

Semporna is essentially a fishing town and island transport...

Semporna is essentially a fishing town and island transport hub. Not much appeal in my opinion other than it being the start/finish point for most Sipidan diving trips; that’s the only real pull for tourists, and unless you are heading out to the islands there are probably other nicer places on Borneo.

The place is not for everybody, very poor people, small...

The place is not for everybody, very poor people, small homeless children playing and begging around, however I enjoyed the local experience. There is nothing to do here so if you are going for diving you are ok or for an island hopping tour that was very nice snorkelling.

Semporna is a scruffy little town that's trying to up its...

Semporna is a scruffy little town that's trying to up its game but unfortunately has a ways to go. The beautiful outlying islands draw loads of tourists with zero environmental awareness. The local tour operators do little to encourage good practices. The streets and particularly the harbor are full of trash. The locals eat out about half the time so restaurant options are abundant. Prices for just about everything are low and snorkeling and other tours offer good value. If you go to dive or snorkel, please bring up some trash after making sure nothing is living on it.

This is the filthiest town we have visited.

This is the filthiest town we have visited. There is garbage everywhere, including the ocean that washes it onto the beaches tourists come to visit. Footpaths are broken and full of trip hazards as well as being non-existent in some places. Fortunately they drive slowly and avoid people walking on the road. Little children begging is another sad reality. However, the snorkelling is still much better than KK,and you'll get used to the garbage after a couple of days. The waterfront restaurant strip has great cheap seafood.

It was a very fine hotel - basic, but clean, with hot shower and all necessities. I do not share the poor opinions - we were satisfied with our stay. In particular, the surroundings were not dodgy at all - certainly not more than the centre of Semporna (which is a super ugly and unappealing city in general). The hotel area is a bit on the side from the centre, but is fairly calm, has small, local restaurants, several laundry services and small shops - very normal area.

Very good overall stay, especially relative to other options in Semporna. The hotel is brand new, so everything feels fresh, clean, and well maintained. The rooms are nicely done and comfortable. The staff are very attentive, helpful, and responsive throughout. Despite a few early-stage limitations, the overall experience was positive and the property shows strong potential once fully completed.

The hotel is just at the town center, excellent location to explore restaurant around. Just about 10 minutes walk to the jetty. 👍 The room is clean and tidy. The bed is comfy and the linens are quite clean. I slept very well. 👍 Staff is friendly, especially the receptionist sHin. She has beautiful smile.👍 I'll consider to stay at this hotel if I go to Semporna again.
