The Darfield hotel is pleasant and well located in central Canterbury between Christchurch and Arthur's Pass. There are scenic places to visit in the area including the great walkway at the Rakaia Gorge, for example. The hotel staff are always pleasant and helpful. The Pub and restaurant downstairs are very good. There is plenty of parking at and around the hotel.

Darfield was a good staging post for us ahead of crossing...

Darfield was a good staging post for us ahead of crossing Arthur’s Pass. It’s a pretty town with a good supermarket, choices of eating-places (we loved Satkaar for delicious Indian food), some interesting history information …and trains!

The only motel in Darfield was full.

The only motel in Darfield was full. The hotel is only suitable for young folk who are happy to ‘rough it’ as its inadequate and very dated facilities put other folk physically at risk. Insufficient local accommodation for those attending the magnificent events venue close by. A shame, as Darfield also looks such an interesting place to visit, stay and look around.

We chose Darfield because we were doing some research nearby...

We chose Darfield because we were doing some research nearby. Darfield is perfectly located to find agricultural supplies and outdoor clothing which we needed. Darfield, just 35km from Christchurch, links all routes also to.the south and west and north. Like many south island small towns, Darfield has a sense of civic pride and is easy to navigate around or through.

What an amazing unit!

What an amazing unit! We stopped over for one night's accommodation & it turned out to be one of our highlights. The rooms were immaculate & decorated to perfection. The place was clean, spacious & had all the comforts of home. A great place to stay - would do it again & highly recommend to others.
