This is one of the best lodge’s I have ever stayed in, the location is perfect, right in the middle of the beautiful farm land of New Zealand, not a long drive from the nearest town. The place is super clean and cozy, the perfect place to relax and enjoy the amazing scenery and farm animals. Alyson is a great host and makes you feel right at home. I’ve been to this lodge twice now and I am definitely coming back!

It was modern, clean, comfortable. The hostess left delicious brownies, ice cream, fruit, fresh (still warm) bread, fresh orange juice, milk, and bacon and eggs (which we cooked) for breakfast. The nespresso machine with milk frother was great too. The apartment is very private, and very close to Matamata.

Very spacious and comfortable for my party of 5. All beds provided restful sleep. Home has 2 queens and 2 twin beds divided amongst 3 bedrooms. The kitchen was well equipped and there were plenty of towels and linens available. Had WiFi and even some board games stocked.

Lovely town close to Hobbiton (which is excellent for all...

Lovely town close to Hobbiton (which is excellent for all ages). Great restaurants & op shops (but the latter were closed on public holiday.) Opal Springs Thermal Pools great for families. Okoroire Hot Springs (via the Hotel) - pools suited to adults only -sit and soak, no splashing or head under. Facilities around pools in very poor condition. One toilet shared men & women, one tiny changing room, also shared. No rubber matting on floor. Had to change in muddy puddles. Sad because these pools are historic, first concrete pools built in NZ. Could be lovely with some investment. Hotel itself is beautiful, heritage decor, provides meals & accomm. But pools too expensive - $46 for one senior & 2 kids for an hour.

Lovely little town with good selection of restaurants.

Lovely little town with good selection of restaurants. We ate at Osteria. The food was amazing.The homes are well cared for and the town centre presents itself as a well loved and cared for environment. Amazing trees in the town itself! The surrounding country side is beautiful. The waterfall is beautiful even from the road. We were unfortunately too late in the day to do the walk.

We loved Matamata, all the people we met that worked in...

We loved Matamata, all the people we met that worked in stores were amazing, highly recommend Merchant for dinner, staff there were amazing and food was great for a pub like venue. Osteria food was beautiful and wine selection was nice. Matamata is a small town to get around but driving through the rural areas was lovely. Hobbiton was fun also.

Matamata seems to be centered around Hobbiton tourism which detracts from the township being easy going and relaxed but not a lot else on offer, people were not overly friendly and nothing much else going for it.

We had two great meals out.

We had two great meals out. One at Osteria Matamata and one at Sofra. Both fabulous! We enjoyed the I-Site and bought some cute souvenirs there. The purpose of our visit was to visit Hobbiton. Our expectations of that day were exceeded. We are very happy to have finally got there!

The main point of our trip was to visit Hobbiton Movie Set. This is an amazing experience, our second trip. Have done both the lunch & dinner experience. Food, staff & experience rate a 10. Had a great meal at Sofra, food & staff were great. Breakfast at The Rich Coffee Cafe was nice and the staff were ok. Visited the I-Centre too and found the staff to be helpful.

Our stay at Matamata Lodge was one of the best experiences we’ve had in New Zealand. The views were absolutely stunning. Surrounded by beautiful countryside, we could watch cattle peacefully grazing while cloud-covered mountains created a breathtaking backdrop without any interruptions. The cabin we stayed in was very comfortable and had all the facilities we needed for a relaxing stay. We also received breakfast every day, which was a lovely addition. Overall, the stay was peaceful, refreshing, and truly worth every penny.

The bnb owner had beautifully curated the space to meet every one of our needs. There was fresh milk, yoghurt, juice, butter, cheese and jam in the fridge, along with fresh bread, homemade brownies (DELICIOUS!) and a fully stocked tea and coffee bar with Nespresso machine. This was a small slice of Matamata paradise!

The place is located in a very quiet area so it's very relaxing and you can enjoy spending the late afternoon and the evening outside ! The house is well-equipped and the hosts prepare everything to make it easy ! We really loved it here, probably the best place to stay in Matamata !

The room was clean, probably the cleanest room we've stayed in so far on our holiday (out of 4 hotels). The woman at reception was lovely. There were washing and drying facilities available. It was cute. We were also provided a portacot which looked brand new.
