From the moment we arrived, we were welcomed by Alexandra with the biggest smile, instantly making us feel at home. She was so warm and kind, and that energy carried through the entire staff—every single person we encountered was amazing. What really stood out was the presence of the owners, personally walking around, chatting with guests, and making sure everyone was happy and cared for. That level of attention gave the whole stay such a special and personal touch. The location and hotel itself are absolutely stunning—a true little piece of heaven. The design is beautiful, the facilities are top tier, and everything feels thought-out to perfection. And the food? Simply incredible! So fresh, high-end, and absolutely delicious. I especially recommend the Carbonara—it was outstanding. We stayed for five magical days, and leaving was truly bittersweet. But one thing is for sure: we will definitely be back! If you’re considering where to stay in Paje, do yourself a favor and book Lujo—you won’t regret it.

We went to Al Casbah for dinner - an eclectic fusion of Swahili and Algerian dishes - Most delicious. I definitely recommend it. We also went to the Italian Restaurant - Giorgio's. Homemade pasta which was delicious and a lovely host - would strongly recommend this restaurant too. The town itself is very dirty, very busy and a little overwhelming. The beach is tidal so good for long walks at low tide, not passable at high tide except for kite surfers. Food at the beach is expensive and not very good. Too many hawkers bothering you for sales. The nearby Blue Lagoon (13kms) is excellent for snorkeling ( you do need a boat though) and the Rock Restaurant is sublime!

Paje is the best get away and the best to party in Zanzibar. If you also wanna meet some people or your partner paje is the best place or choice to make. People are friendly and welcoming places are fair prices and everything is just ok. I stayed longer than I expected but I still loved it.

The wind on the beach is really strong, if you're not a kite surfer its not that great for swimming, although it does die down a bit in the early evening. Paje is more vibey and fun than Kendwa, felt like there was more to do outside of the beach/hotel. Its easy to book a taxi through your hotel. There was a lot of kite surfing on offer

There are better locations both North and South of Paje.

There are better locations both North and South of Paje. Paje is set up to spend - the local supermarket, for example, was selling Nivea sun cream at $30 per bottle! Food was fine though nothing overly exciting, to be honest and certain places along the beachfront were selling basic burgers for nearly $16 - which seemed to be the norm. There were plenty of other financial aspects which, whilst not being personally prohibitive, will certainly be for others coming to Zanzibar for the first time: mandatory insurance upon arrival, tourism tax at the hotel (despite having paid for the hotel in advance) and the general cost of everything. On Paje beach it is easy to be a target which led to us hiring scooters to get out of there and explore other beaches on the island. Seemingly everyone is out to fleece (even a keyring was priced at $12 on the beach) - so I would advise everyone to have their wits about them and not allow themselves to be stopped every 5 minutes or so. Aside, it is not all negative: the beaches are as beautiful as any in the world and the snorkelling (from a Dhow) was spectacular.

great beach for swimming in the afternoon. you can buy lots of kinds of bread and kebabs nearby !nice kitesurfing on the beach. there are lots of bars with food on the beach but on the mainstreet you will pay local prices for all different types of bread and kebabs if you are on a shoestring budget..

The hotel looked amazing and it was so clean and spacious. I loved the outdoor shower the most. The breakfast was amazing, one of the best breakfasts I’ve had during my stay in Zanzibar. The front desk was very helpful during our stay, especially Armani, he went above and beyond for us and he was very accommodating. Overall our experience at the hotel was amazing and we would recommend to everyone to stay at Samawa if you are in Paje.

The food is amaizing.. the bar and chillimg lounge with enough of sunbeds was nice. Waking up with the sound of ocean waves is something rare to find in Zanzibar in a budgeted hostel on the beach. Staff is nice especially the manager made my check in very smooth. Thanks.

I had an amazing stay in Oxygen: Staff was really nice and the food at their restaurant is just too good! Not to mention, location is a 10/10: you step out of the Hotel doors and you basically are in the beach already. Would totally recommend for a vacation in Zanzibar.
