Karoo Secret was exactly what I needed – calm, serene, and beautifully peaceful. The sunsets were absolutely on point, and the quietness of the surroundings was something I truly appreciated. The sense of stillness made it easy to unwind and reset. I also enjoyed going for a run along the gravel road, which added to the feeling of being immersed in nature. Margot, the host, was incredibly welcoming and helpful, and even kindly gave me milk for my coffee at no extra cost. A perfect escape from the noise and busyness of everyday life.

To be honest, we didn't go outside our self-catering spot.

To be honest, we didn't go outside our self-catering spot. But then, with a stunning pool and garden, we didn't need to! However, it was the first night in years that we have stayed over somewhere and not heard ANY NOISE at night, especially on a Saturday night! So kudos to Aberdeen for quiet!

We stayed overnight in a small old village house called Die Pophuis. A beautiful little town with different architectural styles… some old with no restoration, others restored with magnificent stained-glass windows. Pagel House is one such building. It belonged to the family who owned the Pagel Circus, and it is now a guesthouse. The sandstone magistrate’s court actually has two gargoyles on its roof. The Dutch Reformed Church stands in the middle of the town with the tallest church tower in the country. The dusty streets are clean, and one can explore the town with a peaceful walk.

Restaurant in town called Blue Door sounded good.

Restaurant in town called Blue Door sounded good. Tried to call ahead to book, but incorrect number listed. Website said open till 20:00, but we got there at 18:30 and it was locked up! Fortunately fish and chips available next door or we would have gone hungry!
