Abbots Reading Cottage consists of a kitchen/diner with electric oven, halogen hob, microwave, fridge, freezer, washer/dryer, dining seating, and a sitting room with TV. There are two double bedrooms with TVs, both with en-suites, and one zip/link which can be set up as a twin on request. Outside there are two acres of grounds with gardens and patios and off-road parking for two cars. Two well-behaved pets welcome. Shop 1.3 miles, pub 1.3 miles. Situated alongside the Lakeside Station is the long-standing Lakeside and Haverwaithe Railway, home to Britain’s oldest standard gauge steam engine, on which you can travel back in time along this well-loved Heritage line, and where little ones will delight in meeting Thomas and his friends. Visit the Lakes Aquarium to uncover the often-secretive world of life below water, where you’ll chance upon hundreds of captivating creatures that feature in the surrounding rivers, lakes and sea. There are wonderful, well-signed walks to be enjoyed in the immediate area, including the 5-mile route to Finsthwaite’s High Dam, which trails from Lakeside through pleasant woodlands and meadows.
