Barn Owl Cottage is a beautiful detached self-catering cottage nestled deep within the Exmoor countryside, sleeping up to 4 across two bedrooms. It offers a peaceful, private haven with a large garden, patio seating area and its own small wooded area to enjoy. A short path through the front lawns leads to the front door, opening into a well-equipped kitchen with a large dining table. The ground floor also has a spacious sitting room with leather sofas, a woodburner (complimentary logs provided) and a TV with Freeview and DVD player. Upstairs are two bedrooms, one king and one twin, along with a large bathroom fitted with a toilet, basin and bath with shower attachment. Outside, the garden wraps around the property and includes a charming wooded area and a patio with garden furniture. A laundry room in one of the small stone barns has a coin-operated washing machine and tumble dryer, plus a shared freezer and payphone, and there is a hosepipe handy for washing dogs, boots or bikes. One well-behaved dog is welcome by prior arrangement, and as this is sheep country dogs should be kept on a lead at all times when outside. Indoors, pets should be kept off furniture and beds, not allowed upstairs, and never left unattended. A forestry track from the garden offers a short walk for exercising your dog. The cottage is suitable for children. Please note it is not suitable for guests with restricted mobility and has no wheelchair access. A refundable security deposit of 200 GBP is required, arranged with the owners two weeks before arrival. Check-in is from 4pm and check-out by 9:15am to allow time for thorough cleaning between guests. All our cottages, including this one, are decorated for Christmas and New Year stays, so you can enjoy a festive atmosphere throughout the season.

Wheddon Cross is often called the 'crossroads of Exmoor' -- a friendly village at the junction of the A396 and B3224, right in the heart of the National Park. Standing at around 300 metres above sea level, Wheddon Cross is the highest village on Exmoor. It sits in the parish of Cutcombe, with the ancient parish church of St John just a short walk away in the neighbouring hamlet. The village grew up around its important crossroads, where travellers on the old coaching routes between Dulverton, Minehead and Simonsbath would stop to rest. Village Amenities The Rest and Be Thankful Inn stands at the centre of the village -- a 19th-century coaching inn serving food, local ales and accommodation. Wheddon Cross also has a well-stocked village shop with post office services, a petrol station with ATM, free public toilets, a children's play park, and an active village hall hosting regular community events. Nearby Towns Minehead (8 miles) -- The main town of West Somerset, with larger supermarkets (Tesco, Morrisons, Lidl), high street banks, a sandy beach, and the terminus of the West Somerset Railway. Dunster (7 miles) -- One of England's best-preserved medieval villages, dominated by its castle and famous yarn market. Excellent independent shops and places to eat. Dulverton (10 miles) -- Known as the southern gateway to Exmoor, with a National Park Visitor Centre, independent shops, a butcher, and several pubs and restaurants along the River Barle.
