I had a fantastic night stay at this hut. It exceeded my expectations in every way. The hut was spotless, the bed was very comfortable, and I appreciated the quiet atmosphere despite being close to the city center. I’d definitely stay here again...

Nestled in this ancient walled, country garden in a beautiful old town part of Bexhill, East Sussex sits a charming shepherds hut surrounded by vibrant colours of many flowers and trees and a multitude of bird song. This hut sits on the grounds of a peaceful shamanic healing practice which provides a holistic and spiritual healing sanctuary for its visitors. The old town is home to some fine examples of Georgian architecture and other historic buildings dating back to the Saxon times.
Rachel is happy to leave guests alone to truly immerse themselves in the country garden lifestyle and local Bexhill beach if they choose, or she can be available to offer a shamanic healing session or drum birthing experience from the shamanic practice on site called Sacred Stones. (Please note that these extra services much be booked in advance directly with Sacred Stones.)
The shepherds hut is right in the heart of the old town which has an array of medieval properties, ancient gardens and right next to the beautiful St Peters church. It is probable that Bexhill, crowned by the ancient church of St. Peter, was once the site of an Iron Age fort. Pagan Saxon tribes had settled in this whole area in the late 5th century when Pevensey, (called Anderida by the Romans and later named Adredesceaster after their departure) fell to the Saxons in A.D. 490; St. Wilfrid, Bishop of Northumbria, arrived in the land of the South Saxons in A.D. 681, to convert the pagan tribes to Christianity. Less than a century later, a church was endowed on this hilltop by Offa, King of Mercia; the exact date of this endowment being 15 August 772. On the wall of the tower arch can be seen a copy of the Charter, written in a mixture of Latin and Old English. The bounds of the land, which formed the endowment, can still be traced today. It was only as late as the 1950’s that the last parcel of this land was sold. A ten minute stroll down the road to the seafront will offer up many cafes, bars and interesting local shops and if you want a little more culture, art, music and comedy then pop along to the De La Warr Pavilion which is a pioneering centre for the arts. A place where everyone can experience contemporary exhibitions, events and entertainment in an iconic Modernist building. By the sea, on England’s south coast. Only a ten minute train journey away is Hastings old town, set between hills that reach to the sea, Hastings is a precious oyster of ancient history. Look up and you’ll see the ruins of the castle watching over the town, as they have in one guise or another for nearly 1,000 years. You can visit the caves, learn about the smuggling days of the pirates, explore the antique shops, visit the pier of sea front attractions or eat in some of the best restaurants in the country.
