Property info

Brightworthy Farm is a spacious, characterful farmhouse set amidst rolling Exmoor moorland, reached via a long private driveway and offering complete peace and seclusion. Sleeping up to 8 guests across five bedrooms, it comprises one king-size double, two twin rooms and two single rooms, along with two bathrooms: a ground-floor shower room and an upstairs bathroom with bath and shower over. The welcoming entrance hall leads to a sitting room with open fire, comfortable sofa and armchairs, and a dining room with a characterful inglenook fireplace and wood-burning stove, plus a table and bench seating eight. The kitchen features a traditional Aga and adjoins a pantry with a free-standing electric double oven, hob, microwave, dishwasher, washing machine and additional fridge storage. Cookware, crockery and utensils are well supplied. A rear hallway offers coat and boot storage with direct access to parking. Heating is a cosy mix of night storage heaters, freestanding electric heaters, the Aga, wood-burner and open fire, with logs provided; electricity and heating costs are included. Wifi is available, though speeds are slow due to the rural setting and unsuitable for streaming or downloads. Bed linen and towels are provided, and a high chair and travel cot are available on request. Outside, the farmhouse is surrounded by generous grassy gardens, including a sunny, enclosed front garden with outdoor tables and chairs for al fresco meals. Guests may also wander the private fields leading down to the River Barle, ideal for a riverside picnic, though livestock may graze there at certain times of year. Plentiful parking is available on site. Up to two well-behaved dogs are welcome for a supplement of GBP 30 per dog, and there may be scope to accommodate horses by arrangement for DIY livery. The property is not suitable for guests with restricted mobility or wheelchair users. Smoking is not permitted.

Neighborhood info

Withypool is a small moorland village in the heart of Exmoor National Park, set in a beautiful valley where the River Barle flows beneath a handsome six-arched medieval bridge. The village has been a popular destination for countryside lovers for well over a century. The author R.D. Blackmore, who wrote Lorna Doone, stayed here, as did General Eisenhower, who used the area for D-Day training in the 1940s. At the centre of village life is The Royal Oak Inn, a welcoming 18th-century pub serving real ales, local ciders, and hearty food. The village also has a charming tea room and a small shop and post office selling everyday essentials, local honey, handmade soaps, and art. Withypool sits at a natural crossroads in central Exmoor, making it an excellent base for exploring the moor in all directions. The River Barle is one of the finest rivers on Exmoor, and the walks along its banks -- south to the ancient Tarr Steps or north to the medieval Landacre Bridge -- are among the most beautiful in the National Park. The nearest small town is Dulverton (approximately 7 miles), known as the southern gateway to Exmoor, where you will find a mini-supermarket, butcher, post office, chemist, cash machine, and a good selection of independent shops and restaurants. Minehead (approximately 12 miles) has larger supermarkets, petrol stations, and high street facilities.
