Property info

Daveys Barn is a cosy, open-plan studio-style barn conversion set on a working hill farm on Exmoor, offering a genuine rural retreat for two guests. The main living space combines a sofa, wood-burner, dining table, compact kitchen and a king-size sleigh bed, with a separate shower room off the living area featuring a walk-in shower, toilet and hand basin. A chair-bed can be provided for a third guest if required. The kitchen is well-equipped for self-catering, with an electric cooker and hob, sink, toaster, kettle, microwave and under-counter fridge with freezer compartment. An external laundry room with washing machine and tumble dryer is available on request. Outside, guests have a private terrace with table and chairs, plus an enclosed courtyard with a stream running through (supervision required for children and pets). The courtyard adjoins the property next door via a lockable gate. As the barn sits on a working beef and sheep farm, there may be occasional farm noises and smells, and the friendly owners live nearby and are happy to offer a farm tour or introduce guests to their pedigree show sheep. Heating and electricity are included, with central heating plus the wood-burner kept supplied with logs and kindling. Wifi is free of charge. Bed linen, towels, duvets and blankets are provided, along with basic cleaning materials and toilet roll. Tea, coffee, milk and homemade cake are provided on arrival, with bread and local eggs included for stays of more than three nights. There is private off-road parking in a large area shared with one other holiday cottage. Well-behaved dogs are welcome for a supplement of GBP 15 per dog per booking, though dogs should never be left alone in the property. A travel cot and high chair are available on request, though the property is not considered suitable for children.

The Brendon Hills offer a peaceful corner of West Somerset, blending gently into the eastern side of Exmoor and placing guests close to some of the region’s finest scenery. With Exmoor National Park on the doorstep and the Quantock Hills (AONB) a short drive away, it’s a wonderful base for walking, wildlife spotting and exploring quiet rural landscapes. Wimbleball Lake Activity Centre is about ten minutes away, with lakeside walking and cycling trails plus watersports including paddleboarding, canoeing, sailing and windsurfing. Clatworthy Reservoir is also nearby, offering scenic routes and well-regarded fishing. The long-distance Coleridge Way passes through the area too, providing 50 miles of varied walking and riding routes. The ancient harbour town of Watchet, roughly eight miles away, has a marina, steam railway station, museums, shops, pubs and places to eat. From Easter there is a weekly Wednesday market, along with a craft and food market on the first Sunday of each month. Wheddon Cross, about seven miles away, sits high on Exmoor and gives easy access to Dunkery Beacon, the highest point on the moor. The views stretch across wild moorland, the Bristol Channel and even to Wales on a clear day. Each February the nearby Snowdrop Valley draws visitors to its famous displays. The village also has a mini-supermarket, petrol station and a welcoming pub. To the east, Wiveliscombe is about nine miles away, with Taunton around eighteen miles for larger shops and amenities. Popular Exmoor attractions such as Minehead, Porlock Weir, Lynton and Lynmouth, Tarr Steps and many scenic trails are all within comfortable reach, making the area ideal for guests who want a blend of tranquillity, nature and easy day trips.
