The flat is spacious and airy. It is very quiet at the rear where the bedroom is and more active at the front where the living area is (a great place to watch the world go by). The living room has floor to ceiling windows and gets lots of sun. It benefits from double glazing, which helps keep more heat in during winter evenings and reduces noise levels. There is a multifuel stove with a hand painted hearth. You are welcome to use the stove responsibly. Firewood etc is not provided but if you wish, and if given enough notice, we can arrange for kindling, logs and/or smokeless fuel to be available for your arrival at an additional cost or you can always arrange for it to be delivered during your stay. All the window blinds have masterpieces printed on them. Living room: Central blind - Joseph Mallard William Turner’s The Burning of the Houses of Parliament (1834-5). Left blind - Turner’s The Fighting Temeraire (1839). Right blind - Claude Monet’s San Giorgio Maggiore by Twilight, Venice (1908). Bedroom blind - Vincent Van Gogh’s Starry Night over the Rhone (1888). Kitchen blind - Vincent Van Gogh’s Cafe Terrace at Night (1888). There are two levels of decking in the garden with a table and four chairs (cushions are on the kitchen shelf below the toaster) and a chimnea. The garden is a real sun trap getting the sun in the morning and most of the afternoon and evening. PLEASE NOTE: The communal front hall is very dilapidated and I'm afraid it looks rather grubby. It is scheduled for refurbishment in the next set of works on the building.
There are too many great cafes and restaurants to mention so we will focus on those in closest proximity to the flat. Directly across the road from the flat you will find 2 cafes, one on the prom and down the steps to the beach you will find Starsky and Hatch with seats on the beach where live bands sometimes play during the summer. The Selkie Seafood Bar is a few steps further along the prom walking in the direction of Warrior Square. Opposite Warrior Square you will find Goat Ledge also on the beach which is a very vibrant cafe bar with live music, a great atmosphere and lots of funky cosy little huts. The White Rock Theatre is opposite Hastings Pier, just a 5 min walk away. The Kino-Teatr in St Leonards is a beautiful independent cinema and music venue with an art gallery, bar and restaurant. Kings street in St Leonards offers a good selection of relaxing cafes/restaurants. In Hastings, for a wide variety of quirky independent shops, attractive cafes restaurants and music venues, head to George St and High Street. Whether you frequent the many cafes, bars and restaurants, visit the galleries and theatres or just walk along the prom, you can experience the relaxed magical vibe of the area. On long summer evenings it can feel like being in a tropical holiday destination helping you get in the holiday spirit.
