Ellie and wish you to thoroughly enjoy your special stay at Heritage B and B. Whilst respecting your privacy we will be available to answer your questions, guide you to wonderful places to visit, and be as supportive as we can. Ellie is a brilliant cook, and we happily provide full vegetarian breakfasts, as Gillian is vegetarian. Our homemade cakes for afternoon tea are pretty special too. We both have particular interest in ancient history, and are quite knowledgeable about the ancient sites nearby, including long barrows, stone circles, leylines etc. We enjoy sharing this interest with others, and look forward to hearing your stories too.

The friendly historic town of Calne is where the traditional English technique of curing ham and bacon – the Wiltshire Cure - was invented by the Harris family. Kerry Crescent was built in 1887 by Thomas Harris for his daughters to live, Heritage Bed and Breakfast is at number 1. The story of Calne begins around AD 978, and covers Medieval England and the Industrial Revolution, through to the present day. It’s a story of drover’s trails and coach roads, the rise and fall of canal and rail travel, woollen broadcloth and meat production. Calne is a town of discovery - Joseph Priestley “discovered” oxygen here whilst working at nearby Bowood House. Shortly after, Jan Ingenhousz built on the work of Priestley and “discovered” photosynthesis. Heritage Bed and Breakfast is in Calne’s heritage quarter, concentrated around St Mary’s Church, with multiple listed buildings illustrating each chapter of Calne’s past. Calne is also a great place from which you can discover the timeless wonders of Wiltshire - the North Wessex Downs, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty; Avebury; Silbury Hill; Marlborough; Bath; Stongehenge; Salisbury; Caen Hill locks; Lacock; Corsham etc.
