After 12 years of living and working in Australia and Asia, we moved to Bath in 1999. Our three children have now grown up and we took over Lorne House in November 2016 as an exciting new venture. Having lived in this area for over 20 years we are pleased to offer local advice and recommendations to guests wishing to explore Bath and beyond.

Lorne House was built in 1876 and was the childhood home of the Rev W.V. Awdry, creator of the Thomas The Tank Engine stories. . The house is a large Victorian villa which has been beautifully restored to offer every modern comfort. All rooms have ensuite bathrooms/wetrooms; bedding is egyptian cotton and all rooms have a tv, hairdryer, iron, ironing board and tea/coffee making facilities. Guests are encouraged to make use of a comfortable sitting room with as well as seating on our large outdoor verandah that benefits from the afternoon and evening sunshine, Box is on the edge of the Cotswolds and is just 6 miles (10 km) from the historic city of Bath. We are close to the villages of Castle Combe, Lacock and Bradford upon Avon and are surrounded by beautiful countryside. We have an EV car charging point onsite. This is available to guests at a set fee per charge.

Neighborhood info

Lorne House is perfectly placed for visits to Bath as well as many wonderful Wiltshire villages of historical interest, such as Lacock, Castle Combe, Avebury, Bradford on Avon, Biddestone and Corsham (all regularly used as film locations). Box is a lovely village with excellent amenities, a great bus route into Bath and rural walks on the doorstep. Peter Gabriel's recording studios are here and Isambard Kingdom Brunel's famous Box Tunnel is carved through the local Box Hill. We have a couple of good pubs and an excellent Indian restaurant within walking distance and a huge choice of fantastic restaurants and pubs just a short drive away. This area abounds with historic interest, beautiful countryside and great shopping. There are lots of child friendly attractions and entertainments close to us including Longleat and Bowood House Adventure Playground.
