Here you will find, sitting atop a craggy, volcanic rock, the historic Castle with the Old Town Jail and Church of the Holy Rude slightly further down the hill. Slightly further away in Causewayhead on the top of Abbey Craig outcrop is the National Wallace Monument. The historic Battle of Stirling Bridge in 1297, the Battle of Bannockburn in 1314 and the Battle of Sherriffmuir in 1715 all helped to shape the history of Scotland and these sites can easily be visited from Muirside Cottage.
