Company info

History is all around us. Our family has lived and farmed on the Carmichael Estate since 1292. The name Carmichael originated on a hill or "caer" fort on our lands where a church was dedicated to St Michael. It became known as the caer of Michael and our name eventually developed into Carmichael. We now farm deer, beef cattle and Texel sheep which we are born, reared fattened, slaughtered, butchered and packaged on the farm. We are passionate about the welfare of our animals and quality of our meats and encourage visitors to "Eat the Farm" in our Clan Tearoom and Bistro or take some back to cook in your cottage for a tasty meal. In our spare time we are keen orienteers and skiers.

Pond Cottage offers a peaceful and secluded break away from the city hustle and bustle. I love the walks in the beech woodland nearby, ideal for recharging the batteries and enjoying time with the dog. Always of interest is the heron who visits the small lochan next to the cottage, to steal the fish if you were planning on casting your rod. It is always exciting to see a fox, squirrels and a wide variety of birdlife.

Neighborhood info

The area around us is dominated by Tinto Hill. We have wonderful countryside with rolling hills and beautiful valleys and the nearby River Clyde, yet we are within easy reach of the attractions of Edinburgh and Glasgow. A trip to the Borders, Dumfriesshire and Ayrshire is only an hour away. We are lucky to be close to the popular World Heritage Village of New Lanark which offers an informative and interesting day out. A walk up to the Falls of Clyde from New Lanark is well worth the effort.
