Neighborhood info

Located in a pretty rural village in the Peak District National Park. Chelmorton is a classic White Peak limestone village set in stunning upland scenery, and a very quiet and peaceful village. It is one of the highest villages in the UK. The strip like crofts and patchwork of walls run at right angles off the main street and date back to medieval times. The village is built along this single street running up to the church of St John the Baptist, with its' graceful spire topped by a weather vane in the shape of a locust. Behind the church is Chelmorton Low (low in the Peak perversely signifies a height) and from here the delightful Illy Willy Water stream runs down through the village. Opposite the church is the village pub, The Church Inn is a family friendly pub serving great homemade dishes and local ales. It also has a great outdoor seating area for whiling away a summer evening. Booking a table is recommended Further afield you will find the pretty market town of Bakewell less than 10 minutes drive from the cottage. Here you will find an abundance of local businesses and independent retailers selling lots of lovely things. A 10 minute drive in the other direction brings you to Buxton, another lovely market town famed for its natural spa waters. Visit the stunning Buxton Opera House, stroll around the Pavilion Gardens or head to Pooles Cavern where you will find the Go Ape adventure course and lots of fabulous walking around the 2 million year old limestone cave! Rose Cottage is a short drive (or an hours country walk!) to a fabulous pub The Royal Oak at Hurdlow which boasts an expansive menu of home-cooked food.
