Property info

The Coach House is a handsome, detached 200-year-old stone building on the outskirts of Dulverton, combining quirky charm with generous space to create a genuinely spacious holiday retreat for two. The ground floor features a beamed sitting room furnished in traditional style with a leather Chesterfield suite, a large fireplace and cosy log burner (logs supplied), with stained glass windows catching the afternoon sun. The modern, well-equipped kitchen-dining room opens through French doors onto a private cottage garden, ideal for morning coffee or an evening drink. A second shower room with WC completes the ground floor, though note there are a few steps between the kitchen, living area and shower room. Upstairs, the calm double bedroom (standard 4'6 bed) has a luxury pocket-sprung mattress and en-suite bathroom with bath. A single sofa-bed in the bedroom offers flexible sleeping arrangements for a small additional linen charge. The kitchen includes an upright fridge-freezer, microwave, electric double oven and hob, washer/dryer, toaster, kettle and cafetière, plus a dining table for four. Heating and electricity are included, with storage heaters throughout providing background warmth alongside the wood-burner. Bed linen, duvets, blankets and towels are all provided. Outside, the enclosed, fenced private garden has a bistro table and chairs, a lovely spot for sitting out, though dogs should be supervised due to countryside distractions nearby. Private off-road parking is available on the drive beside the property. Up to two well-behaved dogs are welcome; a stair-gate prevents pets from accessing the bedroom, and pets should not be left alone in the property or allowed on the furniture. Smoking is not permitted. Due to the steps on the ground floor and the upstairs bedroom, the property is not suitable for those with restricted mobility, and it is not considered suitable for children. Check-in is from 3pm and check-out by 10am.

Neighborhood info

Dulverton sits at the southern gateway to Exmoor National Park, straddling the Somerset and Devon border in a wooded valley where the River Barle meets the Exe. It's a thoroughly rewarding small town unhurried, unspoilt, and well-stocked with independent shops, galleries, good pubs and excellent places to eat. The surrounding landscape is extraordinary: open moorland, ancient woodland, deep river valleys and a dramatic coastline all within easy reach. Walking, cycling, wild swimming and riding are on the doorstep, along with the famous Tarr Steps clapper bridge and the deer-rich expanses of the high moor. Exmoor is one of the darkest sky reserves in England, and on a clear night the stargazing from this corner of Somerset is hard to beat.
