The Old Bakehouse was a delight. It had everything, and more, that we needed for our stay in the Cotswolds. Ros was the most accommodating host and the location was perfect for our holiday 😊

Ros was a very helpful and friendly hostess. She was on hand for any queries. She made the parking easier for us by moving her car. The house is full of character and was cosy with the log fire. Ros very generously provided a full basket of logs....

Stonesfield is a village of historic interest renowned for the mining of roofing tiles ‘Stonesfield Slates’ and for the Roman Villa with its unusual mosaic floor, a twenty minute walk away through beautiful countryside. The Old Bakehouse was the village Bakery until the 1970s and is a delightful grade II listed Cotswold stone building, the entrance opening into a hall which was once the site of the oven. It retains its original features of flagstone floors on the ground floor, wooden floors above, lovely old timbers and the stunning cast iron oven door. This is a tranquil village ideally situated for exploring Oxfordshire and the Cotswolds, surrounded by beautiful countryside and excellent walks including the Oxfordshire Way, which runs alongside the boundary of the property. It is well placed for visiting the old market town of Burford, the ‘Gateway to the Cotswolds’, Stratford upon Avon, the home of the Royal Shakespeare Theatre, and Oxford with its University Colleges, parks and shopping. The historic market town of Woodstock and Blenheim Palace, the birth place of Winston Churchill, are 2 miles away. The popular shopping destination, Bicester Village, is only 13 miles away. Stonesfield has a grocery store,Post Office and hairdresser. here is a regular bus service to Oxford via Woodstock and Charlbury. There are railway stations at Charlbury only 2 miles away and Oxford Parkway a 20 minute drive away, both have direct trains to London which is an hours journey. The cottage is cosy with gas central heating and a wood burning stove. On the ground floor is a large hallway, downstairs toilet, living room with French windows, dining area and fully equipped kitchen with a cooker, fridge, dishwasher, washing machine, and microwave. Fast WIFI and Freeview TV are also available. On the first floor is a double bedroom with King Size bed, a second twin bedroom, and a bathroom which includes a traditional cast iron roll top bath. Crisp white linen and towels are provided.
Ros is a friendly and welcoming host who likes to receive guests from all over the world making sure that guests have a comfortable and enjoyable stay at the cottage. She enjoys walking and there are many beautiful walks from the cottage and in the surrounding area, and gardening spending many hours tending the large garden overlooked by the cottage.
The area has many attractions accommodating all ages and interests. Blenheim Palace in Woodstock is four miles away, a ten minute drive or an hours very pleasant cross country walk. Oxford is a twenty minute drive away or using the local bus service. There are many typical Cotswold villages and market towns within easy reach of the village, Burford, Stow-On-The-Wold, Bourton-On-The Water, Moreton-In-Marsh, Chipping Campden,Bibury, Upper and Lower Slaughter and Chipping Norton being some of them. For those interested in Houses and gardens Chastleton , Rousham, Broughton Castle, Broughton Manor, Bourton House, Seizingcote and Snowshill are some of the many in the area, Batsford Arboretum,Broadway Tower and Burford Wildlife Park are other interesting places to visit. The area has endless stunning walks, cycle rides and other attractions.
