A characterful, clean and well presented place. It was lovely to lay in bed with a cuppa in the morning and gaze at the sea view. An excellent base to explore the old town and seafront. It had real wow factor. We had a very enjoyable stay. Lots...

Great location very charming apartment and car park directly by the building. The small stuff e.g. salt pepper coffee toilet paper was taken care of and the host was super. The apartment exceeded our expectations.

The Old King's Head was originally a pub and hotel. It is now a board games cafe with a large 3 bedroomed maisonette above. It is a grade II listed Georgian building dating from the 18th century, however, there has always been a pub on this site dating back to Tudor times and was reputedly the oldest in the old town of Hastings. We having lovingly restored the whole building singlehandedly over the last five years from a derelict shell. The interior has been fully sound proofed and thermally insulated, there is modern gas central heating and a wood burning stove which can also heat the hot water. The interior has been finished to a high standard and some original features retained including antique floorboards and one wall in the kitchen with its original medieval timber. The front south facing bedroom on the second floor has views to the sea and the RNLI boathouse. The bedrooms are all doubles, one with an ensuite, the 3rd bedroom has the option of 2 single beds or a kingsize double zip & link. The main bathroom has a cast iron roll top bath and shower. On the 1st floor the lounge has sea views, a large kitchen diner, utility room, a large hallway with desk and cloakroom. NB the parking space is next to the property- ideally suited for a small-medium car however, an estate car can fit with careful manoeuvring/reversing in but you must ensure you do not block/excessively overhang the pavement and park within the area indicated.
Neil and Maria welcome you to The Old King's Head and hope you enjoy your stay. We love the Old Town, it is truly a vibrant and special place and so much to see and do, with the added advantage of the beaches and beautiful country park. Please ask if you need any information on the local area. We are always open to ideas and feedback following your stay. For your convenience we have provided tea, coffee, salt, pepper and olive oil should you wish to use them. Please confirm prior to arrival whether you will need the single beds or king size made up in the 3rd bedroom. We respectfully request that outdoor shoes are removed inside the house and recommend that as the floors are all wood guests bring slippers for comfort. If we are unable to be here to greet you, a key will be left in the key safe box. Please note as detailed in important information a refundable security deposit is payable by Paypal or bank transfer prior to arrival which is refunded in full following a satisfactory checkout. There is a free parking space next to the property ideal for a small-medium car- we recommend you reverse in. Please ensure you do not block or excessively overhang the pavement.
Situated on Courthouse Street in the heart of the attractive Old Town nestled in the valley between the West Hill with its historic remains of the castle dating back to 1066 and the East Hill cliffs, part of the Hastings Country Park with its with amazing walks, views and glens, you may even see the wild ponies. There are many festivals and parades in the neighbouring streets (including Jack in the Green, Bonfire parade and Old Town Week). Explore the interesting streets and Twittens with a mix of Tudor, Georgian and modern houses, visit the historic Fishing Quarter, enjoy live music in the many good pubs on your doorstep. The bustling George Street is a couple of minutes walk, where you will find many independent interesting and unique shops and boutiques, cafes and eateries and the beach is little more than a stone's throw, there is so much going on from free concerts to the Seafood and Wine Festival on The Stade, smugglers caves, museums, an aquarium, a miniature railway and the steep funicular railway lift up to the East Hill, amusement arcades and fairground rides, crazy golf and further along the sea front is the Pier.
