Salamanca Market

A Hobart favorite on Saturday mornings – just down the road from Princes Wharf, Salamanca Market fits right in to its historic setting. Against the backdrop of honey-colored sandstone houses from the 19th century, a wide range of stands line the main drag. Their wares include an array of Tasmanian goods, from handmade clothing, funky ponchos, and vintage collectibles to potted plants, flowers, and ceramics – all before you even get to the artisan food!

These markets are awesome. Plenty of good for all tastes.

These markets are awesome. Plenty of good for all tastes. Lots of local products on display and many unusual items that you would never see in shops. If you're looking for something different or unique, this is the place for you.

Excellent but go early,8am is a good time, Parking is horrendous, parking officers are very busy, read the signs, but its worth a walk and some great food, Wallaby Burritos and a coffee, wicked donuts ,juices, plenty of Jams and Condiments, fresh fruit, and vegies...a great spot

A wonderful market - a wide range of stalls including a wide variety of food stalls, we spent 4 hours there. The 2 best points at Salamanca: the entire market is a smoke free zone - even though it is open air, and, it's a no-dogs zone, so no dog-leads to get tangled around your legs.

Compared to my visit 20 years ago - it was more ‘artisan’ work to see then - and different to other places. Now far too packed with food stalls, & same type of stalls to be found in any large market anywhere. Hard to find the real artisans of Hobart & Tasmania. I am from NSW and brought my cousin on this 3 week trip. Salamanca was to be a must see, but would have been better spending the day travelling further down the coast. The uniqueness of Salamanca has been lost — sadly.

Over rated and over priced.

Over rated and over priced. Better bargain options and prices at Vinnies, Salvos, Buy4 less, at Glenorchy and CBD outlets. You are really paying for the vibe, and seeing some 2,000 people aged 40-90 come out at the same time.

Excellent bistro style cooked breakfast (with barista coffee) included in room rate. Nice location close to the pier, Skybus stop and Salamanca market. Good selection of hot beverages in room. I requested a quiet room, and I got one well separated from other rooms so I was not kept awake all night by noises from rooms next door (which was a huge problem for me during a previous stay at this hotel).

Very comfortable studio apartment in the Annex. Perfect location for seeing Hobart. Easy walk down Elizabeth St to the pier and ferry to MONA as well as the Saturday Salamanca Market. Enjoyed having a full kitchen as we could then eat in if we wanted. grocery about 2 blocks away. Wonderful breakfast cafe around the corner. Free laundry. We would book here again.

Our stay here in the 2 bed apartment for 4 people was great. It’s a fantastic location on the water - close to the Mona ferry, Salamanca markets and Hobart CBD. The apartment is in the historic IXL precinct and was huge - really spacious for 4 adults and well thought out with everything you’d need for a short stay. It was clean and good value. Would definitely stay again. Parking for a good rate was a bonus too.

The Ibis Styles in Hobart is a great hotel that I would gladly stay in again. After spending a week in more rural parts of Tasmania, it was nice to be in a big city with all convenience located at your fingertips. The location is close to heaps of shops and restaurants. The Salamanca Market was less than a 5-minute walk. Mount Wellington was less than a half hour drive. For what we needed, Ibis Styles Hobart fit the bill.

The Best Western Hobart is located in the heart of the city and is walking distance from a number of main attractions. The room we stayed in was large and comfortable with a modern bathroom. The bed was very comfortable. Would highly recommend visiting the Salamanca market which is only a ten minute walk from the hotel. The food is also delicious!

This apartment was perfect location in Hobart! walked across the park to the Salamanca Market and all the restaurants on Salamanca. The apartment was HUGE! So much space we could really spread out at the end of our 10 day drive around Tassie. We really appreciated having underground, secured parking for our rental car. And laundry facilities in the apartment were super helpful! The bed was comfy and the linens were good. Kitchen was well appointed. Bathroom was spacious. The gentleman who checked us in was delightful and helpful.

The hotel staff / owners were very accommodating about check-in and the space was comfortable, quiet, and clean. The location is in a quiet and interesting part of Hobart, a 15-minute walk to the Salamanca market and ferry buildings, with amazing views of the water. If you have a lot of heavy suitcases I recommend using a car to get them to the hotel, but otherwise it's quite easy (and pretty) to walk.
