The location was great! To the left of the entrance is a close, alleyway, leading to the royal mile. Across the street from the hotel is another close leading to the train station, or, if you don’t want to climb the stairs you can walk around the corner.

Fantastic place. Would go back every year. The location is super convenient. A few blocks from everything: High Street, aka the Royal Mile is actually right above Cowgate; once you climb up it's three blocks down the Royal Mile to get to Edinburgh Castle. The Cathedral is also around the corner. Grassmarket, the street with bistros and pubs is two blocks away, same with the Princes Gardens and Victoria street. The Scotsman Hotel and tea room, North Bridge and the Greyfriars Bobby statue are also around the corner, on the high streets. Princes Street and the New Town is a 5 minute walk, across the gardens. Dean Village is about 1.5 miles from the hotel, a 25' walk. The location is truly unbeatable. The hotel itself is gorgeous. Room was spaceous, comfortable, we had everything we could possibly need: lots of power sockets, lots (including usb!); AC, radiator in the bathroom, a comfy bed, a huge flat screen TV, lovely details and amenities (every day, they'd leave a variety of teas, coffee, cream, sugar, and mugs, glasses and an electric kettle to have a hot beverage in our room whenever we felt like) and there was even a hair iron. You can tell the structure is old by how thick the walls are, which makes it very quiet, despite having a biergarden next door, but inside it's been fully renovated, with a super clean, modern, industrial design and everything in perfect condition. Staff was suuuper kind and warm and the vibes of this city in general feel like a warm hug, despite the cold and the wind.

Absolutely everything about our stay at The Scotsman Hotel was fantastic. We were in Edinburgh for our Honeymoon and they gave us an upgrade to a bigger room with a beautiful view to the city. Staff were attentive and kind, and everything was within walking distance of the hotel. This has been one of our favorite holidays and The Scotsman Hotel definately added to that.

St. Giles Cathedral

During the 16th-century Protestant Reformation, the fiery sermons of John Knox echoed around this imposing Gothic church. As a result, it's seen as the center of Presbyterianism in Scotland. But you don'€™t have to be religious to feel moved by the stained-glass Scottish Saints window or the Thistle Chapel's intricate heraldic carvings.

Amazing history.

Amazing history. I'm just sad at the state of the church in the UK. Most cathedrals are now museums or shops. I mean, the father of the Presbyterian Church, John Knox, is buried in it's parking lot! Beautiful building however.
