Make sure you walk to the left to see the total run of the falls. The colour of the water is stunning.
Try to visit the Aratiatia lake and dam too. We saw the 12 noon opening of the sluice gates and the rush of water was magnificent.

Great, the colour of the water is amazing, then down to see the Aritiatia dam opening, then the Hukafalls Falls River Cruise, which take you right up to the falls your saw slowly so you can get photos, as they enter the river in a relaxed ride,
And then down to "Rapid Jets" which are only 5-10 minutes away and then you have fun.

Must visit Aratiatia Rapids.
Must visit Aratiatia Rapids. It's downstream of Lake Taupo, ~16km from the town center. The dam opens three times daily in winter and four times a day in summer, so check these times before going.

You can park at a viewing point 500mtrs up the hill from the main car park which has a 30 minutes max stay. The viewing point has no time limit and there is a cool path down to falls. 15 to 20 mins walk. Of course you will have to walk back to get your car. 10 mins up the road.

On the outskirts of Taupo, this is a very impressive view - lots of water power here. There are great walks around here, from 15 minutes to several hours. The geological history of the area as well as the recent human developments (Maori and European) are really interesting and create a fascinating context.

This house was really spacious and felt homey! We'd been traveling for 9 days so it was nice to have a cozy place to stay. The main bonus points for our family were the living room + tv (family movie night!) and proximity to Huka Falls. Location is in a nice neighborhood that felt safe!

Nice location, a short drive to town and Huka Falls. Beautiful view of the sunset. Comfortable bed. Mineral pool in the room was nice, but took forever to fill with enough water to sit in.

The rooms are large and have everything you need. Good air conditioning in the rooms that have it. Nice gym, sauna, and spas - I really enjoyed using them. Beautiful and large property close to Huka Falls and other attractions including Taupo. Really great staff!

The location suited us really well, and we enjoyed the handy access to the path to Huka Falls. The bed was very comfortable with good quality linen. The shower was good and we were pleased to have a table, two chairs and basic kitchen.

Close to supermarket. While not particularly close to other places it is kind of central between the bars, restaurants, bus stop, lake or walk to Huka Falls. Staff were nice though usually seemed to be only single one on at time and with other duties so often away from reception and had to be buzzed back.

Our large, roomy suite was exceptionally clean and our host was so cheerful and welcoming and always seemed available for questions. Close enough to the downtown that we could easily walk to restaurants and a grocery close by. It was a very short drive to the Huka Falls Walkway trailhead (a very enjoyable walk to the falls and back).

Stunning property situated on the river that runs from Lake Taupo to the Huka Falls. The main lodge is beautifully appointed and provides seating and dining areas inside and outside. The rooms are equally wonderfully, each having access to a Porch, rolling grass and the river view.
