The room felt so cozy and curated. The entire property was cozy and quiet, with intentional details like books and artwork that made it feel like home. The breakfast was incredible but by far the best part of the experience was the lovely hostess! We felt like we were being cared for by a fairy godmother. She was so welcoming and shared family history with us and even sent us on our way with homemade jam. It’s an experience we’ll treasure forever!

Everything in this place was top notch. The place feels new and is very clean and comfortable. We booked the family room on the first floor for two couples and had a spare small bedroom for two kids if we'd bought them. Nice kitchen and living space but not bigwe spent 3 nights. Everything provided for to cook your own meals just go shopping before. It's all in a quiet area and if you prefer a chalet you can also book that. There's a town with all facilities about seven minutes away by car. Breakfast is the ordinary German hotel breakfast with cold cuts breads some pastries scrambled eggs and hard boiled eggs a few sweet items etc. Staff are helpful and sweet very easy to deal with. There is a walking area above the property that gives you a view over the small town and rural area.

Harz Highlights

Visit Quedlinburg, Germany’s first capital

This well preserved medieval town is home to over 1,300 half-timber houses and the impressive Burgberg castle. This UNESCO World Heritage Site is framed by the Harz Mountains.

Be charmed by Wernigerode and Brocken

Brocken is the highest peak in northern Germany, and at its foot lies the charming town of Wernigerode. Walk through the forest to see the town’s timber-frame houses.

Try a glass of Schierke Feuerstein

For a typical Harz drinking experience, sample a glass of Schierke Feuerstein. Produced in the town of Schierke, this herby liqueur has a distinctly bitter taste.

Soak in views atop the Roßtrappe

Roßtrappe is a granite crag that looms 1,325 feet above the Bode Gorge. You can hike, drive or take a chairlift to the top, where you’ll be rewarded with spectacular scenery.

Sample a local delicacy: Harzer cheese

You can't visit the Harz without tasting the local Harzer cheese. This sour-milk cheese is made from low-fat curd, and is typically served on hearty rye bread.

All aboard the Harz Narrow Gauge Railway

Steam locomotive trains run on this railway, which traverses some of Harz’s most scenic areas. Ride to Brocken’s summit, then enjoy a beer with stunning views as your backdrop.

Christmas comes to life in Quedlinburg

Discover the magic of Christmas in the historic town of Quedlinburg. Advent is celebrated with decorated alleyways, seasonal music recitals and beautiful shop window displays.

Let Walpurgis Night bewitch you

According to legend, witches would gather on the Brocken during the night on every April 30th to celebrate spring. Today, this tradition is celebrated with bonfires, pranks and the locals dressing up as witches.

Admire Goslar’s carved half-timber houses

Wind through the cobblestone streets of this ancient mining town to discover the intriguing wood carvings on the houses. Stop by Rammelsberg Mine, which operated for over 1,000 years.

Braunlage: ski and spa-lovers' heaven

Braunlage Wurmberg Ski Resort is the perfect place to enjoy some powder. Enjoy winter sports by day, and relaxing health retreats by night. The sauna is calling your name!

The breakfast was wonderful, they served everything you could want. The room was charming, there were minor imperfections but that's due to the beautiful old medieval building the hotel is in. Parking was slightly expensive but was conveniently located. And the location is unbeatable. its on the quieter end of Quedlinburg city center, but walking distance to literally everything you could want to see. Very clean, cool underground bar, and staff super friendly

We enjoyed our stay at the park. Our kids loved the swimming pool and we really enjoyed the sauna (especially the great 'aufguss' sessions!) . There's a lot to see and do for all ages. The park itself is nicely landscaped and the facilities are clean and decent. Friendly staff and a nice mountain view.

Wernigerode is perhaps overlooked as a place to visit as Goslar is maybe got more focus but it is a beautiful town with much to see and do. If a castle visit is on the cards, bear in mind it is quite a walk up from the parking place so worth considering taking the bimmel train from the town centre. It costs 8 euro return for adults but worth the outlay. There is also a horse and carriage option around the town. We ate at the kartoffel haus and it was great but be aware it is closed between 2-5 pm

Quedlingburg is a charming old town with hundreds of old timber-framed houses, many of which have been restored. There are many cafes on the market square, but it is worth venturing away from the centre towards the cathedral , where it can be less busy. A guided tour is worth it, as it draws your attention to things you might not otherwise see. A walk up to Münzenberg gives a great view of the surrounding countryside. A walk/hike up the Bodetal near Thale is well worth it. On a sunny day it quite shaded, so a pleasant walk.

Goslar is off the beaten path, so may involve extra train connections. It is a small town and the old town is very compact and walkable. Most of the buildings are very well maintained medieval renaissance. The town supported the nearby nearby copper silver mines. The buildings are covered and roofed with slate with distinctive patterns. If you have time, you can explore the Harz Mts and the mining museums. The very local beer is Gose from the Brauerei Goslar, cloudy wheat beer with some spice and a bit salty. Named after the river Gose

Braunlage has a lot to offer, nice walks, and we loved the monster roller activity on the mountain. Puppe's bar is a really nice place to drink. And you have a great choice of nice restaurants. Reservation is required, especially the best rated restaurants on trip advisor are usually completely occupied. You can do some nice shopping too. We visited Quedlinburg, Halberstadt, Goslar, bad Harzburg, Thale and Weringerode, all very beautiful cities/villages. The roads in between these cities are beautiful.

Schieke is a small and quiet touristic centre.

Schieke is a small and quiet touristic centre. There are few restaurants, general store and pharmacy there. We were here in mid July and there were few people there. There are many hiking trails around. We liked the trails to Brocken, Wurmberg and Schnarcherklippen. We visited historical towns Wernigerode, Quedlingburg and Goslar which were very nice. The Bodental canyon is worth for seeing, too. The forests in a large part of the national park have been attacked by bark beetles. There are basically no mature trees left. The views are sometimes bleak and there is no choice but to wait for the new forest to grow.

If you want nature for your holiday, then Ilsenburg is the right choice! Mountains, trees, fantastic view from top! For hiking it’s one of the best route! Unfortunately, there’s also part of nature that, most of the trees are affected by the fest or plague so you will see that a lot of trees are dying or dead and some mountain are bald! Anyhow, we did hiking down and up till Brocken! And up there , 1142 m high is breathtaking👍😊

Fantastic town to walk around with oodles of old buildings tastefully maintained/restored. Plenty of opportunity to shop, although is seems this time of year, late September, things are slowing down and not every place is open. Had a great meal at the Zum Bar Hotel, you'll want to dine here at least once!
