Very friendly staff, and very accommodating. When they noticed we had some mobility issues they immediately suggested to change our room to a ground floor location without hesitation. Great location for nearby sight seeing. There was a lot of historical memorabilia, beautiful rooms and flowers to see. A couple of sections were setup as a museum. Beautiful gardening. All was very clean. Great breakfast!

Everything in this hotel is well thought out. The attention from the beginning cannot be compared to any other hotels we’ve stayed during our month long trip in Indonesia. The staff is very kind and accommodating. We tried the batik workshop and felt deeply grateful for the kindness the experts extended to us sharing their traditions. The massages were also worth booking. We had a very pleasant stay. The food was also delicious! We were worried it wasn’t going to be given the city and that it’s still not touristy yet we were greatly surprised! Thank you so much !!

We came to Malang, to show my grandson where my father was...

We came to Malang, to show my grandson where my father was taken prisoner of war in March 1942. We also came here to get to the top of the Bromo volcano and watch the sunrise from the edge of the crater. For the rest there is not much to see in Malang, except for the country side. We have been shopping for two flashlights to use during our climb to the top of the Bromo volcano during the night and we were pleasantly surprised to find a super modern shopping mall with shops representing all the world known brand names. Forgot the name of this shopping mall.

This place has planted the most trees of any city I have been to in south-east asia. Although I was there for work not leisure the shade makes it more pleasant to walk around - but note it's very difficult to cross the road. More pedestrian bridges would be a good next step.

ijen is pretty much overrated, it's a nice 6-hour-ish hike with above medium difficulty, the flame is underwhelming which is slightly bigger than a camp fire and the crater? go to Bromo instead. With the current volcano incident related to the Brazilian tourist, I am more convinced that people should be aware of tour guide's quality and training in East Java. Upon reading some brief information about traveling to Ijen, I found to mandatory in getting a guide, I went there alone and caught weird looks from other guides, some avoided my interactions when they found out I was alone, some others was good and paying attention.

I wanted to do it solo on motorcycle.

I wanted to do it solo on motorcycle. Actually the jeep owners know exactly where to go, when, where to park etc. Takes the hassle out of everything. Not expensive. I didn't use a horse to get to Bromo rim but wish i did.200 K negotiable down to half i think My exercise day.

For most foreign travelers Probolinggo is just a base from which to take a tour to Mt Bromo and possibly Ijen. Otherwise there is not a compelling reason to visit the place. The accommodation options are not good and there doesn’t appear to be any sights of particular interest in the town. However there are some nice coffee shops, and we met and talked to some kind, interesting locals while there.

The location (close to airport) and the staff were fantastic!! They went out of their way via private car to airport as the shuttle was full! The breakfast buffet exceeded our expectations!! The rooms were spacious, and clean.

Malang is unknown and unexplored, yet it is a great town for a quiet get away. There are many good restaurants, a few markets to explore a few ancient temples to visit, never mind the many hikes. There is Mount Bromo and then there is Batu. For me I prefer the quiet short walks and a swim in the pool. Tourism here is geared to the local tourist and foreigners are rare.

Love the local city way of life. Had a haircut at local barber shop only for 15,000 IDR - best for no fuss simple cut not fancy Food is endless! Try their food court at Plaza Aton for a mix of halal and non halal option

This area is a gem.

This area is a gem. We stayed in Kalibaru and in Licin and visited Plantation De Grote Tuin in Kalibaru (a top visit as yu learn so much about the cultivation of spices, coffee, rubber, coco brown sugar, etc.) and also highly sustainable. In Licin we visited IJEN CRATER, which is spectular although very busy, and there are many other things to do in this area.

Since Bromo and this township is at a height, it is nice and cool. Comfortable is the right word. Town is small and other than the sunrise trip to Mount Bromo there is nothing much. The sea of sand and climb to the caldera is a must. Overall a quint little place.
