The location was very good and close to Gore Bay and Domett. It is the typical country hotel with down to earth people. The re is a lot of history in the area and worth a good look around. The food was excellent and you won't go hunger with the portion sizes.

Located a short walk from town, this property was absolutely lovely to stay in. It was expansive with three separate bedrooms, laundry room, large open kitchen/dining/lounge, and a pacman machine! The kitchen was beautifully appointed for all cooking needs. The lounge and dining area was spacious and very nicely laid out. The property was immaculately clean. It was very convenient to have a laundry room. The fireplace made the entire house warm and cosy. The bedrooms were spacious and the beds were incredibly comfortable. Television with Netflix and other streaming services, board games, books and a pacman machine just topped it off!

Tracy and Tony were so friendly and down to earth for our stay. My 4.5yr old and I traveled to Hanmer Spring on the Hanmer Connection bus from Christchurch. It's a 25min walk from the village with beautiful scenery of the forest on the way. You can also ask for a pick-up at a charge, so if you want to be closer to nature with amazing dark sky for astrophotography and stargazing, then this is place for you! The room was clean and warm with 2 heaters keeping us warm during winter. Wifi was $5 for 10GB/24hrs or a few other plans, fast and affordable.

Rated our stay as exceptional because it’s exactly what you would expect. We were a family with young kids and it had everything we needed. Lots of bedding, towels, blankets and cutlery. Cot we requested was already in the room and the heater turned on before our arrival. Super fast check in and out. I would have to say the best for me how clean everything was. Obviously the place is dated but everything felt like it was thoroughly cleaned. The kids enjoyed!

Super friendly staff, spacious rooms with views of a peaceful church, and the most insanely awesome water pressure you’ve ever felt. Honestly, the fire brigade doesn’t have this level of PSI. Fully adjustable, mind you, you’re in control, but at full blast you may just feel like you’re suddenly in the copilot seat as your skin gets quickly exfoliated and massaged at the same time.

Settlers Boutique Motel had excellent facilities! They even provided free towels for the local thermal hot springs as well as free washer and dryer access. The little apartment was very clean and well set up for our family. They provided a free cot for our baby. The service was excellent! They were incredibly friendly and helpful in giving recommendations for local food.

I have stayed here quite a few times over the past and is always my first choice due to the comfort and location the apartments offer and I also love the May Chang shampoo/conditioner and handwash they supply and nice to see this hasn't changed over the years, also great to support local businesses.

Lovely area especially if you like wine.

Lovely area especially if you like wine. The Waipara Valley with it's limestone is special. Take a drive to Waikari. Enjoy the wine trail. Close to Hanmer Springs hot pools. Hunt for fossils. Excellent coffee cart with great homemade sandwhiches. Be aware there is no store or shops. Amberley is the closest supermarket about 10-15 minutes away. Close to the coast and the mountains. Really worth a visit.

I liked the peaceful country atmosphere. It was totally quiet, except for sheep baaing and rosters crowing. There is a beach at Gore Bay which is a short drive away. Great place to get some 'away time' from everything, and a good mid-way spot from Nelson to where you are travelling to next.

The Waipara has our favourite wines in NZ we love a couple nights there after doing some business in Christchurch. We always book a couple long lunch taste the chef experiences at Black Estate and Greystone then fit in a tasting at Pegasus bay and George’s Road and The Bone Line. You can cycle the wineries but we haven’t because we are always there in winter. Several of them have their own accommodation BnB and there are others in the area. The Amberley market on Saturday mornings is a good place to stock up on local goodies for self catering.

The Amberley Hotel is an "Oasis" on the out-skirts of Christchurch. Arriving on a late afternoon flight my wife & I just wanted to get out of Christchurch & avoid the "Knock-Off Traffic" around the City. A short 45mins north is the wee town of Amberley & the Amberley Hotel is a good first night stopover after a tiresome day of travel. There are soft beds, good food & cold beer. What more could one want?

I think Waipara is a nice day trip, or good place to pass through and stop for lunch. We ate lunch at Greystone which was lovely. We stopped at Terrace Edge to taste, but there were no restaurants for dinner or little town to stop and stroll through/rent bikes unless you drove back down to Amberly, and very few places to stay. This was our last day, and we are not huge wine people, so we didn't take full advantage of everything the area had to offer. I think this is an up and coming area, so still room to grow. On the plus side, not at all crowded.
