Manuel Antonio

One of 2,062 reviews:
"If you are looking to see monkeys and sloths, this is the place for you! Manuel Antonio National Park is full of wildlife and nature. There are also beaches for every type of tourist within the park. It is an easy bus ride from Quepos (300-400 colones), about 15 minutes away. If you want a good and cheap meal, I recommend street empanadas! Look for someone with a cooler or ask around."

One of 1,979 reviews:
"The cloud forest is unique. Stayed at Camino Verde B&B in St Elena. Highly recommend but very windy this time of year. A must is to go with a guide as difficult if not impossible to view critters with naked eye. Ate at Letty's, local simple soda. Also, went on guided night jungle tour thru Camino Verde Tours excellent. Both tours included transportation. We did the hanging bridges at Selvatura-nice to see canopy but do not expect to see animals or birds. I would skip next time. 2 night minimum stay is required to see all. Note both the night tour requires lots of up and down hiking but moderate. Hanging bridges easy. Cloud forest tour easy to moderate. You can stay longer (than the tour) in Monteverde Cloud forest and hike to a scenic lookout but it was socked in with mist the day we went. All in all, I would recommend this area as 1 of many others on your trip to Costa Rica."

"We loved the little town, Gigi Brown was down a ways so we were at peace to sleep. You can hear the howler monkeys all day and night! So amazing! We took an ATV to Montemzuma for a day to the waterfalls and with "Crazy Carlos", I highly recommend finding this guy! He made our day! And we have amazing couples photos because of him. Jumping off waterfalls and he took us to some amazing places we would have never been."

"Manoas is the coolest place we stayed during our trip in CR. We were awakened by howler monkeys at 5:30am amidst a drizzling rainforest. The tents are quality and very cozy! Setting is slightly remote from town, so you need a 4x4 vehicle or taxi. Highly recommend!"

One of 159 reviews:
"We visited Golfito due to its convenience to nearby wildlife viewing (particularly birding) opportunities. A car is a must for this, so if you are not renting a vehicle, this option is not recommended. The property also provides good opportunities for fishing charters. The bay has a big tidal shift and there are no beaches close by, so this is not a good location if that is what you seek."

We loved the ceviche at several places-Delphines is the favorite. fun vibe there on the water Get your produce at the fresh market at the entrance to town-great selection. It is very secured property, a code was needed to get in and out the property. Our room is spacious, nice, clean and equiped with all we need, such as a single sofa, heater, towels, etc. The furniture is pretty new, we love the night stands which are like at home. The brakfast is good, better than what I expected. The check-in staff is nice and provided a lot information to us.

The view and beach were spectacular. The staff was extremely friendly and we were treated royally. I really appreciate the owner, Hilda, interacting with her guest as well as us. Manuel Antonio is undeniably beautiful, but be prepared — the national park is extremely crowded, and that crowds saps much of the charm from the experience. It reminded us of watching African wildlife safaris where so many vehicles surround the animals that the moment feels suffocating rather than magical. The same applies here — you are rarely alone with any wildlife sighting, as other park visitors quickly converge from every direction. Our strong recommendation is to hire a guide, either private or in a small group. A good guide makes all the difference in spotting wildlife and understanding what you are seeing. Our guided park tour with Jade Tours was excellent — knowledgeable, professional, and worth every penny. The night mangrove tour, also with Jade Tours, was not exactly off the hook but absolutely worth doing for the unique perspective it offers after dark. The undisputed highlight of our Manuel Antonio experience was a day sail aboard the Brisa Elegante, a stunning wooden tall ship. We were among only three guests, which made it an intimate and extraordinary experience — fantastic crew, breathtaking scenery, and the thrill of spotting blue-footed boobies on the water. The lunch onboard was fantastic and the drinks kept coming. We give it a perfect 10 without hesitation. Do not miss this. Two stops in town are worth noting. Café Milagro Coffee Roasters is a must for any coffee lover — outstanding quality and a wonderful atmosphere. And Faxas House of Cigars is a gem of a find, well worth a visit for cigar enthusiasts and curious travelers alike. Manuel Antonio rewards those who plan carefully. Go early, hire a guide, book the Brisa Elegante, and save room for coffee and cigars.

We loved Uvita.

We loved Uvita. You do have to check the tides as the ocean does come all the way up to the beaches, but other than that, it was my favorite beach. The whale's tail beach was fantastic, and walking out when it was low tide was great. Playa Ventanas, which is a free public beach, was also incredible.

Santa Teresa is one of my favorite spots... as a parent I could say having a place with a pool is a NEED since the ocean is not to "kid friendly"... Small town that grew in the last 20+ years, it's amazing to see and meet people from all over the place, chilling and having a great time. Everyone is Pura Vida!!!!

Jaco seems nice, the High Street was funky and had a lot of cafes, shops, etc. The downfall is that it isn't very safe. We left our car for 10 minutes to go and get a smoothie, and it was broken into. Everyone I have told the story to says the same thing. Jaco has a reputation for cars getting broken into and things being stolen. It's such a shame the police do nothing, as it could be an easy fix with some cameras.

We really liked Quepos.

We really liked Quepos. We were there for 5 nights and 4 full days at the beginning of our trip. Afterward, we wished we'd reversed our trip and stayed in Quepos for longer. It has a relaxing vibe and the beaches are beautiful. We would have like to go into Manuel Antonio National park a 2nd time because it was one of the nicest parks we visited. There are a lot of activities in the area and the weather was way better than Monteverde or La Fortuna (where we had a lot of rain - in the "dry season").

Montezuma is easy going, has beautiful beaches with low tide holes in the rocks that leave bathtubs that heat up by the sun. The waterfall is a nice walk upstream also with flip-flops (till the first one) The Saturday market just across from casa Susen has great quality products, is a bit pricey though.
