South AfricaThe owner is breathing life into the Leeu Gamka Hotel & I am glad we planned a stop in Leeu Gamka instead of Beaufort West on our return home. It is a unique experience: wild west meets modern comfort. You may feel like you have arrived in a ghost town but you will soon be made to feel welcome! The rooms are large, beds are comfortable, bathroom beautifully renovated and the aircon provides relief from that Karoo heat. There is a communal lounge with TV as well as a dining room with multiple tables. Tea, coffee, water, rusks & a selection of cereals are available in the dining room for guests. There is also an outdoor braai area. When planning your dining options keep in mind that The Leeu Gamka Hotel only has the Leeu Gamka Butchery & Farm Stall nearby.

United StatesIt was a charming place, beautifully decorated from the main building to the suites just on the outside, which were perfectly equipped if you choose to stay a couple of nights. Just get out of the city and watch the stars, make a wood fire. The conceive of the place and the friendliness of the staff was very welcoming. I’d definitely recommend this to any travelers seeking a place to rest. Couples or family’s even for a single travel. I brought the whole family and they were very accommodating with pre booking and making reservations.

An INCREDIBLE stay! You MUST stay here when in the area and MUST have their dinner. The Lamb was the best!
The rooms are clean, comfortable and nicely appointed. We felt very relaxed and at ease. Our family of 6 enjoyed the well-landscaped ground, cool pool, surrounding area for a glass of wine. We had the dinner and were stuffed to the brim with delicacies. You will love it! We slept very well! We also had a perfect breakfast, homemade breads and anything you like to order. I would highly recommend!

Lovely comfortable stay at an old farmhouse. Dinners are always delicious and staff always very friendly and helpful. We have stayed there before and will continue to do so when we travel through Beaufort West! Bonus we saw springboks and giraffes on our way in and out!

The staff were very friendly and accommodating. The venue had a relaxing atmosphere and the accommodation was comfortable. I would recommend this venue to any traveller. My two pets, a schnauzer dog and an African grey parrot were very calm and happy in the environment.

What's not to like? The view was spectacular, the hosts were super welcoming, the cottage was gorgeous, great wifi, etc etc!! We also had the privilge of room service from the onsute restaurant as we had our dogs with us... Spectacular food!! A must when staying over.

Karoo national park always very good.
Karoo national park always very good. When we arrived in Beaufort west we realised that it was the end of the month (payday)and the town was a nightmare. We even battle to find parking to do some shopping.

A lovely town with immediate access to great gravel cycling...
A lovely town with immediate access to great gravel cycling - up the Swartberg Pass; to Weltevrede Fig Farm, etc. Lovely art galleries and excellent restaurants. The Lazy Lizard is great; the lamb shanks at the Prince Albert Cafe unbeatable.

A pretty Klein Karoo town.
A pretty Klein Karoo town. There is the sense, however, that most people don't stay too long as it's located right at the foot of the Prince Alfred Pass, which people rush to go over to their destinations. So, Uniondale is a bit overlooked. Getting around is easy, it's tiny so you can walk everywhere.

We always sleep over at Travalia when traveling to Cape Town, it is a welcome rest after a long day on the road. Rooms are great and you can even arrange to have a braai at your chalet, they light the fire and provide meat, salads and "braaibroodjies"

I loved the Karoo nature.
I loved the Karoo nature. The owner welcomed us with delicious homemade bread, butter, and jam, which we thoroughly enjoyed. Firewood, charcoal, and firelighters are also available for purchase on the property.
Our kids were excited to see several wild animals, including monkeys, springbok, and other small wildlife. The views were incredible, the air was cool and refreshing, and the use of rainwater and fully off-grid systems made the stay exactly what we were looking for.
Free Wi-Fi was available, which was very helpful as there is no cell phone reception in the area.

I loved the town.
I loved the town. It was quiet and a true reflection of what we expected. We couldn't visit as many locationd as we wanted due to our scheduling misalignment, but with a lomger stay, we probably would have enjoyed the town more.

Wonderful location, beautiful renovation of old house. Extremely well equipped kitchen and wonderful braai area.
Be aware that the kitchen and braai patio are communal. There is only a kettle and microwave in the bedroom.
The rooms are upstairs, all luggage must be carried up.
Rooms are spartan except for very comfortable bed - no wardrobe, tables, chest of drawers.
Shower is modern, spacious but not hot water.
Beautiful walks on farm, peaceful and extremely restful.
Fan in bedroom, insect repellent, but no heating facilities.

I found Beaufort West to be a lovely city. Clean.
I found Beaufort West to be a lovely city. Clean. Eateries plenty. Halal KfC and there were other halal smaller private eateries. Petrol stations situated at both entrances. Mac Donalds situated at the BP garage. We had a very early breakfast at KFC in Donkin Street as it was open 24 hours and we had to hit the road as early as possible. Unfortunately we didn't explore the Beaufort West's landmarks. Next time!

Prince Albert is my favourite small Karoo town.
Prince Albert is my favourite small Karoo town. A truly soul-nourishing environment with plenty to do or the special karoo quite if you need to rest and take it easy. High summer can be very hot, and even that is wonderful to invite rest in the heat of the day.
For a small town, the food is fantastic and the klein karoo charm will welcome you every time.

Uniondale was the centre point of our journey distance wise...
Uniondale was the centre point of our journey distance wise - so convenient . Also we had not been there before so it made an interesting stop over. Scenery was stunning and the road excellent. Hotel built in 1832 (I understand). Uniondale is about 14 kms off main road and entry and exit are through two mountain passes which were most attractive.
