We didn't visit Wangaratta apart from taking our dog for a walk in a lovely park. We grabbed a pizza (which was very, very ordinary) and walked down the street but it was Sunday so most places were closed.

the motel has good access and parking and is only minutes from the highway - apart from the oddity of commemorating a past villain of Australain history the town is a nice clean small village and has all the facilities to service a short stay

Milawa is a very small town, but central to many great...
Milawa is a very small town, but central to many great options. Try the famous cheese. factory and mustards. Can recommend Stanley Pub on the outskirts of Beechworth. Yackandanda is a quaint little town to discover but Gum Tree Pies is worth the drive, and you can't go wrong with a Gin or Whiskey tasting at Backwoods Distillery. Tour the Beechworth Prison and King River Cafe in Oxley is great....all within a 30mins drive from Milawa.

Came up to Wangaratta as i had entered my dogs in dog trials...
Came up to Wangaratta as i had entered my dogs in dog trials conducted by Wangaratta Kennel and Obedience Club. This is a fantastic club, has wonderful facilities and the events were very well conducted.
Had a lovely breakfast/coffee at the Koffee Bean Cafe in the main street.

a dinky little town which has a railway station, but no, the...
a dinky little town which has a railway station, but no, the station was closed in 1981 for little good reason. Due to the awful terror attack by surrounding bushrangers in the 1800's and the famous 'case' resulting in death by hanging, the town prospers off the story and grusome relics and artifacts are on display there - it is a nice little town but the horror story of the bushrangers that now attract crowds is revealing of some humans' interests

A great central region, with easy access to the Beechworth...
A great central region, with easy access to the Beechworth historical area, the high country, Ned Kelly history, as well as some amazing art (Benalla Graffitti wall to wall). There is also the amazing King valley produce throughout the local area - And Do Not miss the Ava restaurant, while in the area - as well as the Henleys wine bar and kitchen.

We absolutely loved Wangaratta!
We absolutely loved Wangaratta! It is a truly beautiful city, and the walking track beside the Ovens River was both peaceful and enjoyable. We also had a fantastic dining experience during our visit. Highly recommend exploring this wonderful town!

The bus tour about Ned Kelly owner was very knowledgeable about everything and Kate’s cottage museum. Nothing open after 3pm, only a bakery that over charges. Grand daughter got sick, chemist only open mon to fri . Better to stay in Beechworth and travel across

Small wine making region in the King River valley.
Small wine making region in the King River valley. A handfull of small and large winemakers, some of whom have been in the area for generations. Minimal number of eateries for dinner so some forward planning is recommended. Finding accommodation during the Ski season can be a challenge on weekends.
Easy day trips to Myrtleford, Bright and Beechworth. Start to the Great Alpine Road (check during winter for snow chain requirements).
Easy access from Melbourne and Albury/Wodonga via M31. Visit Rutherglen region, nearby, for excellent fortified wines.
