FAQs about hotels in Shanghai

A Beacon of Modern China

A beacon of 21st-century China, Shanghai is modernizing at an electrifying rate. Nowhere is this more evident than the skyscraper-punctuated Pudong commercial district. The most distinct - the Oriental Pearl Tower - has a ball at the top and bottom and has fabulous city views. A number of towers also twist as they go up – a feat of contemporary engineering.

This side of the city also houses Shanghai Pudong International Airport, while Shanghai Hongqiao Airport is over the Huangpu River in the Puxi district. An area of older and less dominating buildings, Puxi features the elegant Bund area whose varied architecture includes a surprising array of Art Deco.

With a choice of shopping centers and small shops beneath brightly lit neon signs just like Chinatowns across the world, Shanghai shopping is fantastic.

Other must-see Shanghai attractions include the wonderful Shanghai Museum and the Jade Buddha Temple. For a break from the hustle and bustle, head to the Yuyuan Gardens, the beach or peaceful Zhujiajiao Water Town in the west.

Whether you choose one of the Shanghai hotels, apartments or hostels, take time to go to a tea house, a Chinese institution. Also worth sampling are Shanghai hairy crab, steamed dumplings and the freshwater fish so popular with locals.

I would love to come again! Absolutely loved it!

I would love to come again! Absolutely loved it! Found cheesecake factory inside LV ship and food was great there. There was a greenhouse garden, probably better to go when there is some daylight left still but also the night time view is great. Very easy to go around places! Bund and oriental pearl tower were the busiest places of all but view was amazing. Light show from bund and sunset and view from oriental Pearl tower is worth going for. City Gold temple is definitely worth going to in the evening. It is so pretty and lots of shops there

A great city with lots to see and do, including museums, architecture, experiences, and food. You just need to be ready for the culture clash; very few people speak English, and everything is handled via local apps, so you'll need AliPay (payments), Didi (taxis) and AMaps (maps). Meituan (food) is also useful, though it is embedded within AliPay. There's also little concern for personal space, which takes a little getting used to. The metro is fantastic for getting around - clean, air-conditioned and cheap. I was there in July, and I'd avoid that month as it's really hot and humid.

Shanghai is the largest and most modern city in China but at the same time we found it a bit less authentic then other cities we have visited such as Beijing, Xian and Chengdu. It is also quite more expensive. With that said it is still very much worth visiting for a few days with lots of things to see.

Safe, clean, relatively affordable but too hot. Highly recommended. We wandered all over the city at all hours and never felt anxious or threatened. The locals are very helpful. We stayed in Shanghai for 6 nights (one day for Legoland, half day for Zhujiajiao, all other days Shanghai).

Everything and I must say everything was exceptional. Rooms clean, cleaning staff even folded the cloths left behind by us. Free water, free laundry. In today’s world this is already worth 15 stars and not 10. Breakfast amazing and quite cheap. Only one issue staff had no English. Worked well with translator but other than that this is the place I will keep coming back to if I am in Shanghai and I need a hotel.

The location of this hotel is great, very convenient for the metro and local attractions. There is a wide selection at breakfast and the food is fresh. It's situated in a relatively quiet area which is good but the bright lights of Shanghai are not that far away either which makes it an ideal base. I'm not sure it is truly a 5 star experience but a pleasant stay for business nonetheless.
