The hospitality of the staff was exceptional and the many public rooms, terrace and garden are exceptionally beautiful. The location across from the race course and within a lovely short walk into town, it has a unique and lovely quiet situation. Rooms overlooking the race course have binoculars for viewing the races! The homemade Cartmel flapjacks provided in the rooms are heaven.

Fantastic location with great views. Comfortable, spacious and clean. But the best part has to be the people. Dylan is a credit to his parents. He went above and beyond to ensure our stay was perfect and we can’t thank him enough for his generosity and help. Legend!

We've just left The Cavendish after a one night stay and couldn't wait to write a review. Wow - what a place. I've been to The Cavendish before for food and drinks and it has always been a favourite of mine in Cartmel however I had never stayed over before. I booked the room and told my partner how amazing the place is for food and drinks - she was expecting big things and The Cavendish did not fail to deliver. We stayed in room 7 which we felt lucky to have been allocated with its view over the back garden and with the priory in sight. The room was lovely, spacious, warm and had great tea and coffee facilities. The bed was very comfortable and there was absolutely no noise from the pub downstairs. A classic Inn-style room. Onto the food. I had had food at The Cavendish before and my last visit I had the steak and ale pie which I was delighted to see had been kept on the menu. To start we had the mackerel croquettes and crab croutes which were both lovely. Great portion sizes and very tasty. I had to have the steak and ale pie again and it was just as nice as the last time I had it. OUTSTANDING. One of the nicest restaurant pie's I've ever had - cannot recommend it enough. The side of chips and sweet red cabbage are perfect accompaniments. My partner had the chicken and gnocchi dish which she was stunned by. I think the chicken has genuinely had a profound impact on her as she's still talking about it 24hrs later and I suspect she will be doing so until we return to The Cavendish. Tender, juicy and perfectly seasoned chicken. Unbelievable dish. The asparagus and peas were cooked to perfection. For dessert we had the sticky toffee pudding and lemon posset. Both were amazing and the lemon posset was a perfect palette cleanser after our mains. The staff are lovely, attentive and can't do enough for you. Breakfast is included with your stay. Again, brilliant food.

Lovely typical Lakeland village.

Lovely typical Lakeland village. Less busy than the very touristy places. Plenty little shops and eating places and nice to walk around to explore. We ate in the Cavendish, the King's Arms and Cartmel Cheese co. pizza place.

Cartmel is a gem of a place.

Cartmel is a gem of a place. Food choices have upped their game now the Michelin star L'Enclume is in town. Not everyone can afford to visit that restaurant, but the pubs have great food. Such lovely walks around the area. It is a tourist town now, so be aware, very little free parking and lots of people especially on the sunny days. Race days are packed!

Cartmel is a lovely place for a long weekend break.

Cartmel is a lovely place for a long weekend break. Lots of pubs, cafes and shops to visit. Ideal base for walkers. Pig and Whistle pub serves an excellent Sunday lunch. Also went to Rogan & Co Michelin star restaurant for a special anniversary, which was amazing. Also had a trip to Grange over Sands which is only 4 miles away. Lovely walk along the front.

lovely little village the coffee shop sells lovely cakes and my Fav Beautiful scones, also savory items we did not have but other that did they looked lovely and very fresh and home made fresh and very hot coffee which was great. It is the home of the sticky toffee pudding the shop is small but well stocked the factory for the pudding is at the back. The Priory is well worth a visit. and they have a lovely shop with a mix of many different items.

Cartmel village is very picturesque, quaint and welcoming.

Cartmel village is very picturesque, quaint and welcoming. We found the locals very laid-back and as you would expect very knowledgeable of the area and the attractions. At this time of year (September) parking was easy, plenty of room at the racecourse but just as easy to park in Cartmel square where their are plenty of places to eat. I would recommend Unsworth Yard just around the corner where their is a cheese shop, a brewery and somewhere to sit and enjoy a beer.
