This was a brilliant, quirky place to stay. The hosts were very friendly and helpful, the location was brilliant-just off the town square. The carriage bed was comfortable, The garden was beautiful, everything was clean and there was a surprisingly functional kitchen for the size. We loved that a lot of the original features of the train were preserved, and we learned some very interesting history from one of the hosts. It was very easy to get the keys, and the hosts communicated with us before and throughout our stay. There is only one parking space, which does have an electric charger, but there is free parking nearby in the black swan, and paid parking in the Cleveland way carpark, which also has electric chargers. Helmsley is great, there is so much to do

Very friendly staff ...Although the room was a bit dated it was a Large room with a big shower. Great water pressure even though we were on the third floor. Comfortable beds,had 2 great nights sleep. Breakfast was very good . Also Sunday Lunch in the restaurant. Will definitely return.

Beautiful little town.

Beautiful little town. I thought the locals might be fed up with people and motorcycles but we met a few lovely people while walking from shop to shop. Particularly liked the well dressed older couple who asked about my wellbeing after I tripped and nearly fell over a kerb that seemed to rise up at the same time as I didn't lift my feet. In passing we both compared our shared clumsiness while our ever loving, sympathetic Wives took the time to make remarks about our increasingly developing talent for not looking where we're going, banging our heads and stubbing our toes. Little interactions like that that put smiles on faces

Helmsley is a lovely picturesque village with lots of central hotels, shops and cafes. It also has lovely walks, especially to Rievaulx Abbey and it boasts a walled garden and medieval castle. So, lots to see and do.

Walled garden, just near town centre car parks is a must visit. Its priced at £10 but well worthi it. Lots of different rooms and new things being created. Lots of lovely places to eat, good variety new Spice restaurant , excellent, also the Italian. Important to book well ahead

Love Helmsley, it's a gorgeous town with lots of character.

Love Helmsley, it's a gorgeous town with lots of character. Lots of independent shops, all very helpful and friendly. The castle is worth a visit as is the walled garden. We did eat in the Black Swan as the food if very good. I did notice an Italian restaurant just off the square that we would have gone to if we had stayed another day.

First time we have been to Helmsley, plenty of walks and cafes, restaurants, pubs etc to choose from, place is very clean and well kept, we stayed two nights could of easily stayed for another night, plenty of things to do to pass the time

Helmsley has lots to offer The Castle, Walled Gardens, Duncombe Park, a town of nice shops and small cafes. So plenty to see and do. For Walkers Helmsley is excellent either through Duncombe Park or walking Rievaulx Abbey. A good Friday Market as well.

Nice breakfast cooked to order we had dinner for our three night stay and were very happy with the menu although a little expensive for a bottle of wine. The room was comfortable, clean and perfectly adequate for a short stay. We enjoyed our time in Helmsley . Nice hotel pleasant staff in a lovely village with plenty to see and do locally.

The location was very central to a wide range of historic houses and sites, and nearby Helmsley is a popular North Yorkshire town with lots of restaurants and stores. My wife liked the smell of barns (not an attraction for some).
