I cannot recommend this place enough. An absolute must if you are passing through. We were greeted by the two lovely bartenders in what I can only describe as an old school saloon vibe, with locals sitting outside, drinking and conversing. It truly made us feel like being part of the village. Lovely rooms, comfy beds, simple, but tasty breakfast. This is an absolute gem.

Has every basic convinience for a short stay: Close to the train/bus station. Electric outlet near bed. Heater ( a bit weak, but ok) Lamp at bed. And rarely seen at a budget place : Heated matress A sink ( toilet is external ) Of course all in simple, rustic form - but i stll liked it because having all that more refined would have been double or triple the price.

Everything! It’s practical, having all the amenities of modern living. Yet, it has a delightful rustic charm that appeals to the traveller who wants to unwind. Herbs in the garden, birds singing, no one can see you, untamed natural vegetation surrounding you just 1 minute off the main highway. Which I will add for city folk is an old world two lane highway. We recommend to all lifestyles.

The room is super clean, beautiful interior and well equipped. Receptionist is exceptionally helpful. He gave us a full introduction of the history of the building and this made our stay very special.

A quaint little NZ town with loads of history.

A quaint little NZ town with loads of history. Food at the Blackball Inn was really good with a good menu. Blackball Hilton (the historic hotel) was also a great stop for a drink, locals were really welcoming and the building is just beautiful. Highly recommend to stay for the night here prior to the Paparoa Track, or just a visit. Lots of history to explore all around town.

This place has loads of character.

This place has loads of character. We enjoyed our stay it was quiet and peaceful. The showers were great everything was clean. There’s a little kitchen to make tea and put some food in the fridge. The meals were really good. The rooms are pretty small but nice and warm. Blackball is a quiet little town with a nice vibe

This place is gem, it's full of character with a real sense of history, these places are rare to find these days. The staff are incredibly friendly, welcoming and helpful and the local who pop into the inn are a friendly happy lot who like to chat. Rooms are are a mix of old world charm and modern facilities, very clean and tidy and very peaceful. Beds are new and very comfortable, we had a great nights sleep. Not having an ensuite is not an issue as the bathrooms are very close to the rooms and you have a few to choose from. Food served in the Inns is simple but very tasty and they make a great coffee. I would definitely go back to stay here and stay for longer.

A perfect spot to stay before starting the Paparoa Track.

A perfect spot to stay before starting the Paparoa Track. Staff were helpful, meals were lovely and the shared bathrooms were spotless! Single duvets tended to slip off bed as not enough tuck-in and only one reading light but beds were comfy, location was quiet so very satisfied with the room.

Very friendly and helpful staff.

Very friendly and helpful staff. We had dinner there which was super tasty. Excellent breakfast included in the price and a bonus if you are heading off to do the Paparoa Track as we were. Blackball itself is a cute wee town and worth a visit in itself.
