Due to a double booking situation I was not able to stay here so can’t rate the facilities, but the owner was exceptionally helpful getting us situated at another location, at no extra cost to us. I would stay here again since it looks like a great place to have dinner and drinks, and I am sorry it didn’t work out for us this time.

Breakfast was fantastic eggs how you liked them toast cereal OJ. Beds very comfortable. Great hosts highly recommended to anyone staying in Hokitika. Best part of the night was the SPAR I spent over an hour very relaxing @ 39dgs. Close to town hoists very informative. We will be back to stay next year.

Some great little places to eat and the food was outstanding...

Some great little places to eat and the food was outstanding. Hats off to the Hokitika Sandwich Company, first time I tried sauerkraut and loved it. Also kudos to Thatcher and Small, had a great meal there as well. Beach is outstanding, great for a walk, even in the cold!

Hokitika has so much history with really friendly, down-to-earth people ready for a chat or friendly g'day. It lives up to the promotional name - A Cool Little Town! Felt safe as a solo traveller. Everything you need for eating out or staying in. Papers Plus is must visit with West Coast & local history books on sale, plus rare books & all the usual newsagent things. The scenery & history is outstanding, the Museum well worth a visit. I explored, walked, talked, ate, relaxed, discovered new facts about its history & generally felt at home & welcome.

A nice west coast town.

A nice west coast town. Caters well to the tourist with plenty of gift shops and places to eat. The beach at sunset was stunning and there are plenty of walking tracks nearby. We easily filled in 2 days there.

A town with no noise bi-law times is unfair to its citizens & tourists. Construction sounds & pressure washing at all hours is just totally unacceptable. But I bet if I was drinking & loud in the streets it would be a different story!!

Hokitika is vibrant. Historically interesting.

Hokitika is vibrant. Historically interesting. Museum is wonderful. The New World grocery store has an excellent selection of goods. Central for travelling to the lakes, Ross, Greymouth. Lovely walk out to the river mouth, beach.

Lovely town with easy access to local visitor sites.

Lovely town with easy access to local visitor sites. A must is a visit to the Sandwich Shop 83 Reville Street. So good we went back for breakfast next day. Sites to visit are the Tree Top Walk and Hokitika Gorge.

Hokitika is a little gem on the West Coast and Stumpers is well placed to enjoy the best of it. Centrally located with free parking outside you're within walking distance of everything. The room was spacious, well appointed and clean. Bed was comfortable and the bathroom clean, functional and both were quite spacious. Although in the center of town the area is quite quiet. As a bonus the hotel has a great bar and restaurant too with a good choice of drinks and a varied menu.

The Pioneer Hotel does not supply breakfast. I bought my own breakfast items with me.The hotel has what they describe as a "Breakfast Nook" which supplies crockery cutlery, a fridge for guests to store private foods, drinks, milk etc and hot water tea and coffee. Any extras must be supplied by guests. Having started previously I knew what I needed to bring with me.

Family friendly holiday park with great kitchen, bathroom, lounge and laundry facilities. Able to hire linen, towels. Local eggs and firewood for sale. Cabins were clean, comfortable and welcoming.
