We had a great stay at River Farm Retreat. The place was really clean, comfy, and had plenty of space for everyone. The location was perfect for our rafting trip at Awastone, and we loved the beautiful walk nearby too. Everything was well set up and made for a really easy, relaxing stay. Would definitely stay again!

Hopwood is amazing! A wonderful experience to enjoy quiet NZ countryside. The location is perfectly nestled in the hills and provides an excellent launching point to see many features (national parks, river cafes, waterfalls) and so much more. It's also exceptionally peaceful for great relaxation and taking a pause. The spot and the hosts are absolutely the best!

Beautiful cottage in a Kiwi farm setting close to the river. You could feel the love poured into every little detail from the themed farm toy basket (that my toddler loved) to the eggs, fruit and milk left for us in the kitchen. We loved our stay and wish we could have stayed longer.

It is great for a overnight stay if you don't mind walking...

It is great for a overnight stay if you don't mind walking to the toilet during the night. It had all the facilities you need. Kitchen and bathroom kept clean. Shower pressure was perfect. Kitchen had all the things needed to prepare and have a meal. The Managers were delightful and helpful. Animals on site may be attractive to children to engage with. Price was great for what was on offer.

We stayed overnight at flat hills.

We stayed overnight at flat hills. It was interesting staying in the timber pod, the shared facilities were very good and staff went out of their way to courier an item we left behind. The shared kitchen was a generous size and meant we met and talked to other guests while making breakfast which was nice.

It was a family-friendly environment that offered many activities for the kids and was well-equipped with a variety of resources to cater to our individual needs—a lounge room, adequate cooking facilities, and very clean ablutions with no major concerns. We fully recommend it for those who are looking for a space to rest and recover, an added bonus is waking up and heading over to the cafe for a hot breakfast.

This is a very rural and not very touristed area of New Zealand. If you want very fresh air, and very quiet surroundings with no sound except birdsong, this is the place. Views and scenery are very attractive without being spectacular. Make sure you fill your car with petrol and pack snacks. Some of the rural towns are very small and you won't necessarily find a cafe or a petrol station. Having said that, if you spot a cafe, it will probably be pretty good. I cannot get over how cafes in the middle of nowhere in New Zealand still have great coffee and delicious food.
