Always wondered what is behind the hill and what a lovely surprise! Loved that we had to open and close farm gates along the way to get to the destination. Fell in love with the beauty of the space and the peace that comes with it. Comfortable stay with lovely hosts who made an effort to ensure that we were not cold on an unexpected cold night. Impressed with the wi-fi so far from society. Going back again and again. Thank you Paardefontein Karoo stay.

I enjoyed exploring the town.

I enjoyed exploring the town. I was last in Matjiesfontein over forty years ago for a brief breakfast stop on my drive from Johannesburg to Cape Town. We got to visit the museum of old cars and walk through the dining railway carriage that is part of the museum. Matjiesfontein is a MUST stop for anyone travelling between Johannesburg and Cape Town.

The room is so clean and comfortable.

The room is so clean and comfortable. The museum was something extrodanary. The attendant,Lynette keep the museum sooo clean. It is noticable how clean it was. The staff looks all very dapper. The 24 hours we stayed there will be a memory that will last forever. It was just amazing!!!

If you are hankering after basic rooms and a bygone age,...

If you are hankering after basic rooms and a bygone age, there are better and less expensive options available. We were disappointed at the price asked for what was a very basic room. We understand that the hotel represents a Victorian building and tradition - nothing wrong with either, but at the price asked, one expects a bedroom that has a little less victoriana and more facilities and amenities expected of a three-star hotel. Offering comfortable and less basic bedrooms can be achieved without changing the nature of the hotel. Very disappointed.

It is a wonderful quiet retreat from the hustle and bustle...

It is a wonderful quiet retreat from the hustle and bustle of city life. A place to reflect and to connect with the earth and the self. Bring along a book and comfortable walking shoes and enjoy the museums' unique beauty and eccentricities of the area as you are transported to years gone by.

If you like history it's a lovely place to stay for a night...

If you like history it's a lovely place to stay for a night or two. Trains come through the town, if that is your thing. 2 museums both worth a look. Cute gift shop and coffee shop Lovely old bar Not much else London bus is brilliant, does a 10 minute tour of the town

It was lovely to be part of an awesome and rich history and...

It was lovely to be part of an awesome and rich history and to explore the museum, transport museum and the whole little town - so very interesting and one can walk through the whole town within an hour! The Hotel and pub were outstanding with their meals. It was great to go on the world's shortest tour on the red bus. It is full of such an interesting history and everything makes one feel that one is back in the 1800's but at the same time it is a peaceful town where one could truly "rest"! Unfortunately we didn't see/hear any ghosts and we were not able to see inside the Courthouse, Pink Chapel, Logan's Tweedside Lodge and Schreiber's cottage! We also couldn't find the cemetry.
