Set in a quiet street not far from the beach The Chicory offers privacy and relaxation. 3 large bedrooms with a trundle bed available upstairs. Two Private balconys to relax on with two large bathrooms and two large entertaining areas. There are glimpses of Westernport Bay from the upper deck but trees have taken over to some extent. A short drive to Cowes where you can enjoy the wonderful restaurants and bars that are available. Cowes has 4 supermarkets to cater for all your needs.

The Richardson family have been on the Island since the 1860's. Joseph Richardson was the first family member to settle there and established a thriving chicory industry on the island. Most of the original Richardson properties are still standing. A visit to Rhyll is recommended. Charlie Richardson's cottage opposite the pier is where Gary spent many afternoons fishing while Charlie and his father, Walter, enjoyed a quiet beer in the 1960's. Joseph's original house, Tallawallah, is in Chillingworth Place, near Red Rocks beach and is heritage protected. 'The Chicory' features some framed photos showing some of this history. Marita and Gary are teachers working in the Victorian education system. Going to the Island after a tough work week always guarantees a restful get away. We hope your experience is the same as ours.

The nearby Anchorage General store has groceries and petrol. They sell excellent local wines and other Australian wines at very reasonable prices. The Anchorage beach is safe and picturesque. A short walk will get you there. (300 metres) Red Rocks beach is adjacent. Both are bathing beaches - no surf. A walk through Ventnor common is a must. We get a variety of wildlife moving through the large, peaceful back yard. The sun sets over Anchorage beach so picnics around 4pm are wonderful. The North Pier hotel in Cowes has a fantastic deck looking out to the water. Great spot for a drink or quality pub meal in the afternoon. The Nobbies, Penguin Parade, Cat Bay surf beach are a short drive Southwest along Ventnor Road. Less than 3 kilometres to the start of the Penguin reserve. Great coffee, gourmet breakfast and artisan food can be purchased just around the corner at "The Store" 511 Ventnor Road. They also have a butcher shop on site. The closest winery is the Phillip Island winery. Head all the way East down Berry's Beach road. It is on the right. Ocean views, great wine and food available.
