Leyburn has some great walking nearby, none more spectacular than The Shawl, offering a fantastic view over Wensleydale. A short drive away the historic castles of Middleham of Richard III fame or the magnificent Richmond Castle with spectacular views overlooking the fast flowing river Swale. Richmond, a thriving market town with many eateries The Little Drummmer Boy has lots of sweet treats to offer. The Georgian Theatre Royal, the oldest working theatre in its original form; and The Green Howards Museum, telling the fascinating story of this distinguished regiment. Grab a bite to eat or watch a film at The Station Cinema. There are some stunning waterfalls close by so make sure you visit the Aysgarth Falls or the highest unbroken waterfall at Hardraw. In the spring Constable Burton Gardens are awash with tulips and daffodils. For steam train enthusiasts ride the Heritage Wensleydale Railway stretching from Redmire to Northallerton, a day out full of nostalgia. Enjoy beautiful food at the many restaurants and cafes serving local Yorkshire produce. A little further afield The National Trust Fountains Abbey and Studley Royal near Ripon make for lovely days out, just don't forget to take your camera. You can stop at Brymor Ice cream near Masham on the way back.
