The Georgian market town of Bedale is a 5-minute drive, boasting a rich historical tapestry and surrounded by some of Yorkshire’s most picturesque countryside. The town has unique shops, cafes and restaurants. A highlight is the weekly market on a Tuesday, where you can find local produce. We can recommend the fantastic Greengrocers, Cockburns butchers, and Taste of India for a great curry. Further afield Bedale Museum is a highlight, housed in a magnificent 18th-century building standing proudly at the top of the High Street; exhibits depict the social history of Bedale and the surrounding villages. In Bedale you will find the Green Tree Inn at Patrick Brompton, a fiery Gastropub at the core of the community, serving a bespoke menu crafted from local Yorkshire produce. If you're looking for somewhere to enjoy fine dining in Bedale, take a trip to Hansom and experience an exquisite tasting menu, which was added to the Michelin Guide's selection in 2024. They also offer a complimentary drop-off service in their lotus Electra for properties within 20 minutes of the restaurant, which includes Ellesmere Barn. There is plenty to explore, right from your doorstep. Take a ride on the Wensleydale Railway, which winds through some of Yorkshire’s most breathtaking vistas, and in winter is home to the popular Polar Express attraction. Nearby Thorp Perrow Arboretum also boasts one of the largest collections of shrubs and trees in the North of England.
