Leyburn is often referred to as the gateway to the Yorkshire Dales and is the closest town, 4 miles from this Leyburn Lodge in Yorkshire. The market square offers a wonderful blend of independent shops and places to eat. Try delicious artisan chocolates from Inspired Chocolate or browse the sales at the famous Tennant’s auction house which also has a great cafe. The Sandpiper Inn and the Bolton Arms pub in the town are both great options, and have a dog-friendly bar. Stock up your cupboards at the award-winning Campbell’s of Leyburn; family-run since 1868, it is a supermarket and wine retailer. On Friday’s do make sure to visit Leyburn’s weekly market full of local produce. If cooking isn’t your thing there are plenty more pubs and restaurants in the area. Indulge in a contemporary dining experience at The Wensleydale Heifer offering an award-winning menu to guests. The village of Constable Burton sits a mile below Sun Hill Lodges, and The Wyvill Arms has a warm welcoming bar and a restaurant. For light afternoon activities, swing over to the driving range at nearby Akebar or wander around the stunning Jervaulx Abbey followed by delicious ice cream at Brymor. Scenic and more challenging walking routes weave across the countryside and market towns. There are some lovely routes around the well-known historical racing town of Middleham, 3 miles away. Middleham Gallops are fun to visit, and horse racing enthusiasts can even book guided stable tours of the Sun Hill racing yard and get to know the horses. Cycling is a popular activity in the area – for amateurs and enthusiasts alike. Tried and tested routes and bike hire are all available around Leyburn.
