Absolutely beautiful place, the location, the garden, the owners were lovely. Really cozy and gorgeous design skylights into the garden meant we could see all the birds too! First holiday for me and my partner. If you keep the windows open, you'll...

Close to the sea front, easy parking, beautifully designed adaptation of an old bakery. And a stunning garden to view from your own terrace.

We look forward to welcoming you to The Old Bakery, self-catering accommodation for your relaxing holiday on Northumberland's beautiful coast. The Old Bakery has been lovingly restored to provide a mix of industrial and traditional features, including the original Victorian bread oven. You will be sleeping above the oven on the restricted head height bed mezanine in the roof space. Also within this roof space is an area for you to hang your clothes and storage for your belongings. Getting round the bed is tricky due to the slope of the roof. Please just embrace the space and roll over the bed, using the side by stairs where there is standing height. Our green credentials and treading lightly on the planet are important to us and The Old Bakery is powered by green electricity mainly from our solar panels and battery storage. The Old Bakery is situated within the shared courtyard of the main building, accessed directly from the street via the vennel door, under the Baker’s Bushell Crest. Your personal terrace is directly behind The Old Bakery, within the garden. A sandy beach is approximately 350m away where the sun rises over the water and dolphins are regularly seen playing - well worth getting up for!
We look forward to welcoming you to our property which has been lovingly restored to reflect its past. The Old Bakery dates back to Georgian times and was modernised to a Victorian white oven in 1881 which is still pesent. When we moved here, we took on the renovation of the whole property, being true to its roots and sustainabiliy high on our agenda. We would love to share our part of Northumberland with you and meeting our guests is a joyful experience. We hope you will agree that The Old Bakery and the stunning surrounding area are well worth a visit.
Spittal is a village just the other side of the river Tweed (well known for its salmon) from Berwick upon Tweed (1mile). It has one local shop, 3 pubs, cliff walks, a magnificent beach, promenade with a cafe and play areas. Berwick itself has had a colourful past, fought over by the Scottish and English. The town walls date back to Elizabethan times in places and was a garison town with the Kings Own Scottish Borderers Museum well worth a visit. There are Holy Island, Bamburgh Castle, the Farne Islands, Paxton House, Union Suspension (Chain) Bridge, Alnwick Castle and Gardens (Harry Potter) to name but a few of the nearby attactions. Berwick has a direct train line to Edinburgh and Newcastle, should you wish to explore further.
