First and foremost the men on reception were outstanding. They gave us a friendly welcome and each time we came in they got up and opened the door for us which a big welcoming smile. Our room was nice and clean and spacious, nice clean bathroom, good heating. Nice location for where we were visiting (Noahs Ark Zoo Farm), free parking. Couldn't fault it.

Lovely sea front, good restaurants and cafes.

Lovely sea front, good restaurants and cafes. Lovely clean sandy beaches, We ate at Smiths in the front, very up market, excellent, nice for special occasion, prices about the same as lots of the other restaurants, but classier, good for date night. Also ate at Old Colonial, this is an excellent place for a cheaper meal, good selection for All the family, Sunday roast really good, nice atmosphere, and friendly publican. We went to Thatched Cottage, service bad had to wait over an hour for our meal, although only one other table occupied, food was good in the end. Very disappointed as previous year it had been good, won't go back.

Would think very carefully before booking here again, would s need to be a last resort. The bedroom was nice but the bed was like sleeping on a floor as a matter of fact was probably worse than sleeping on a floor.

The room wasn’t up to standard, needed a whole new refurbishment like carpets stains. beds needed replacing old. Funny smell in the room. Lovely wake up call at 5.30am fire alarm going off. No staff came outside to check if we were all there. No fire brigade to check why alarm was activated. Not even asked to go back in. Lots of elderly people looking very scared with no time to put shoes on. It was scary. Breakfast could have been better. Photos on advertisement gives you the nice rooms only. Not the ones at the front.

A very lovely hotel situated in a remote area, excellent for hiking and exploration of the south which, along with a work trip was my main intention. Only a 10 minute drive to Cheddar, it felt very welcoming and homely, good facilities and great food.

Smart marina with several nice restaurants and a micro brewery, cafes and plenty of supermarkets. Handy bus services but due to construction of a new railway there are diversions which need better publicity. Open air swimming pool looks good but is regularly booked up. Nice open areas near the Riverside. On street parking can be difficult to find

Winscombe is a charming village that offers a perfect blend of countryside calm and family‑friendly activities. During our three‑night stay, we found it to be an excellent base for exploring the wider Somerset area, with plenty to keep both children and dogs happy. The village itself is peaceful, with easy access to forests, walking trails, and open spaces. Rowberrow Warren and Sandford Woods were standout spots — ideal for relaxed dog walks and letting the kids burn off energy. The location also makes day trips incredibly convenient: Cheddar Gorge is just minutes away, and larger attractions like Puxton Park and Brean Theme Park are within short driving distance. Local hospitality was consistently warm, and the area felt safe, clean, and welcoming. Whether you’re looking for nature, family activities, or simply a quiet break, Winscombe delivers a surprisingly rich experience for a small village. Overall, Winscombe is a lovely destination for families, especially those travelling with dogs. It offers comfort, convenience, and plenty of memorable moments.

Thank you Jen and Phil.We are delighted to have discovered Elmdale Shepherds hut it proved to be very welcome break in our journey. Romantic, utterly perfect, beautifully equipped and spotlessly clean; with the essential ingredients provided we enjoyed a much needed cup of tea and later managed a simple supper from our picnic leftovers, (despite near by pubs restaurants and takeaways). Arrow taxis provide reliable early travel to Bristol Airport. Next time we must plan a longer stay.

Enjoyed a coffee and cake at the coffee station in the village. Would have loved to stay longer and looked at the lake, eat at the local pub and explored the general area more. Beautiful scenery and we were so fortunate with the weather too.

The room was a good sized family room.

The room was a good sized family room. Bed comfy but the pillows were hard. Difficult to sleep especially for my husband with neck problems. Bathroom good size. It was good to be able to park right outside.
