Very nice place to stay, friendly & helpful staff, nice room, food was great and lots of it too which was perfect after a big walk in the hills. The open fire in the bar / dining area made it warm and cosy and our room was nice and warm too with heating that we could control. Parking was free in the market place nearby. I'd already read the good reviews before coming, so wasn't surprised it was good!

We loved it! The first room we stayed in was in the annex and was lovely, then on our return we stayed in a lovely room on the 3rd floor. Lots of steps, but worth the climb. The breakfast was amazing and we also enjoyed getting a drink in the pub, and delicious dinner. The portions were so large they were enough for 2. The staff was friendly and helpful, even providing us a take away breakfast when we needed to leave early. Walking distance to the Aysgarth Falls and a quick drive to Castle Bolton and to Hawes to visit the creamery.

Settle is a pretty little market town with good access to some amazing hills, scenery and hiking. There is a good selection of pubs, and a great chippy. Travelling here by train was fine, and the station is close to the centre. It is on the iconic and historic Settle to Carlisle line for easy non-car outings.

WARNING — this hotel is absolutely not being managed at the level you would expect from a modern 4-star property. The building itself is beautiful and the hotel is clearly still benefiting from the excellent reviews and reputation built by previous owners, but the actual experience we had was a complete disaster. There is effectively no real reception or staff presence on site. Nobody was available when we arrived, the entire property was locked, our keys were trapped inside the building, and nobody answered the phone numbers provided by the hotel or Booking.com despite repeated calls. Without another guest randomly waking up and opening the front door for us, we would literally have been left outside at night despite fully prepaying our stay. You are essentially left completely on your own. Also be VERY careful regarding the bathrooms and comfort level in some rooms. Several rooms apparently do not have proper showers. In our case, the room only had a bathtub with no shower hose, no shower head, no attachment, nothing at all. The hotel simply leaves a plastic jug beside the bath so you can manually pour water over yourself to wash. Honestly, this is the kind of thing my great-grandfather described from decades ago — not something you expect in a hotel marketed as a 4-star property in 2026 charging premium prices. Completely unacceptable experience and absolutely not the standard represented online.

It is a fabulous jewel of the Dales.

It is a fabulous jewel of the Dales. Unspoilt uninterupted views. Lovely time to visit before the number of visitors increase with the better weather. Ate in the Burgoyne brasserie, food was very nice, but not quite fine dining some elements of menu over priced. That said it was enjoyable. It was the perfect place to spend time totally relaxing and recharging our batteries. It is somewhere you be as active as you like, walking, cycling etc or just sitting drinking in that view and watching the world go by.

The area was stunning and it was our first visit to The Dales. We only had one day and our lovely hosts, Zoe and Keith, had produced a bespoke, really brilliant laminated map of a 25 mile circuit taking in Malham Cove, Janet's Fosse, Goredale Scar, Malham Tarn, Grassington, Burnsall and Skipton. It's wetted our appetite for future visits and we would definitely stay with Zoe and Keith again. Beautiful property restored and renovated with care, style and love. Fabulous service and great accommodation.
