I really liked the size of the room and to observe the locals playing 'meat lottery' while having fun and drinking beer. Really nice to experience this in a local south island town! Thank you

This exceeded our expectations in most regards. The location was isolated, but still within easy drive of facilities. The little cottage had everything we needed with lovely touches by the hosts such as a lovely gift basket on arrival, a large selection of coffee and teas, lovely array of food for the continental breakfast, indoor and outdoor footwear, bath salts, linen and towels. Best part - the outdoor bath with a view of the dark sky reserve. What a spectacular, quiet, warm, beautiful place!

We had a wonderful stay at this motel in Omarama. The location was peaceful and quiet, making it a great place to relax, and it was conveniently close to the Clay Cliffs walk. The room was spotless, comfortable, and very well maintained. One of our favourite little touches was the heated bathroom floor, which was especially nice on a cold morning. Patrick was a fantastic host—friendly, welcoming, and happy to help with anything we needed. His hospitality made our stay even more enjoyable. Overall, a great experience and a place we would happily stay at again. Highly recommended and well deserving of five stars!

What we liked • Extraordinary setting — you truly melt into nature. From the lodge, the horizon reveals only natural elements: no visible roads, buildings, or man-made distractions. The positioning overlooking the wide valley and mountains is exceptional. • Warm, elevated welcome — enjoying a glass of Ruinart Champagne on arrival (if you wish) immediately sets the tone. • Excellent cocktails — inventive, interesting, and thoughtfully crafted, well beyond standard offerings. • Outstanding service — genuinely top-notch across the board. Special shout-outs to Paulina, Margot (ask her about the wine—she’s wonderful), Marcus, and the entire team. The leadership clearly shows in how consistently excellent everyone is. • Food, sourcing & dietary care — the mostly French chef team created delicious meals and handled dietary needs with real care and confidence. If you enjoy fish, it’s especially worth noting that their fish is line-caught or speared only. If you’re choosing to stay somewhere like this, you likely care about the environment—and this is a meaningful plus. Most ocean plastics and animal entanglements come from large commercial fishing nets and gear, so this thoughtful sourcing really matters. • Rooms — large, beautifully appointed, quiet, and deeply comfortable. A true retreat after taking in the landscape.

Location was good and proximity to services. It was nice to have a separate kitchen/lounge so i could stay up and watch television after my wife had gone to bed. The property was spacious. It was also nice and clean, comfy bed and fresh linen. Handy to the pub where we had a delicious dinner.

Owner is very kind to lend us bike, olive oil, and vinegar for short-distance trips and cooking in the kitchen of the room. The property is well-equipped with basically whatever you need! Check-in was also speedy and owner as always gave a bottle of milk though we are lactose intolerant.

We were in Twizel for 4 nights in the middle of a cold winter. We were on our way from Queenstown to Akaroa. We spent one day going to Aoraki and walking near the mountains. This was about a 50min drive away. We had an amazing day there. The other days we wandered around Twizel doing some walks and learning about the history of the town. There are great independent shops and restaurants in Twizel and everyone we spoke to was were so friendly and helpful, we felt really at home. We loved the fact that it was so easy to walk everywhere.

There is the "House" and the "Cottage". We stayed at the little cottage and it was perfect. Nice, quiet place next to the lake and the view was just unbelievable. We ate at the High Country Salmon at Twizel nearby. The salmon sashimi was really fresh. Love meeting the very friendly dog "Hari". Hiking the Hooker Valley Trail at Mt Cook was the highlight, though the trail was close for repair after the first bridge on that day. The scenery was again simply breath taking. A visit to The Hermitage Hotel next to Mt Cook was really nice for some snack and coffee.

My wife and I really cannot rave about this retreat enough. The villas are exceptionally appointed and spacious. The environment is picturesque, tranquil and peaceful. The food provided in the villas and the meals cooked by the chef are truly delicious and guests individual tastes are catered for. The staff are very welcoming and friendly whilst ensuring that privacy is a key component of the experience. The villas could not be cleaner or more tastefully presented. We doubt anyone could be disappointed in their stay at this retreat.
