The Priory was a wonderful surprise! We booked it because I've been wanting to stay someplace historic and The Priory didn't disappoint! From a very warm welcome by Emily to the assistance retrieving something accidentally left behind, they were helpful and accommodating. Thank you again. The rooms are incredibly comfortable, absolutely beautiful, and quite big. The restaurant, the bar, the sitting areas. It is all just so lovely. The food was very VERY good - we had dinner twice and loved every bite. The grounds are dotted with impressive sculptures, benches, and a beautiful view of the river. The car park has plenty of room. And the best thing about the Priory was the staff! From start to finish they were incredibly positive and helpful. Each and every person we interacted with in our three day stay was phenomenal. Harriet and her team are kind and caring people. Five stars to them! The town of Caerleon is located on a Roman settlement that once housed over 7000 troops. The remains are right there for you to see! From the legion barracks to the amphitheater to the fantastic museum - what an incredible treasure Caerleon is!

FAQs about hotels in Newport

What Guests Said About Newport:

I had a wonderful time in Newport.

I had a wonderful time in Newport. My favourite places were the beautiful waterfront, the city centre, and the peaceful parks, which were perfect for relaxing and sightseeing. I enjoyed eating at local cafés and restaurants, where I found a great variety of delicious meals and friendly service. Getting around Newport was easy. The public transport was reliable, and many attractions were within walking distance, making it convenient to explore the city. As a solo traveller, I enjoyed walking along the waterfront, visiting local shops, exploring historical sites, relaxing in parks, and trying different cafés and restaurants. Overall, Newport is a welcoming and enjoyable destination for solo travellers.

Friendly staff.

Friendly staff. The hotel was clean and quiet, eventhough there was a busy road near. Bar and breakfast room were lovely and you could eat outside if you wanted to. The hotel was within easy reach of Newport centre.

The staff at this hotel were friendly and supportive but the hotel was not up to my expectations. The cups were stained with toothpaste, the floor was cold, damp and dirty and it was situated on first floor after being assured of a ground floor room.

I find the major roads in Newport very difficult to comprehend these days, after growing up in Newport. The city has changed, not for the better and is no longer the place I used to love. To access the centre of Newport is difficult by bus as the bus station is no more and is now a few stops here and there. The shopping area of Newport, (Commercial St), is no longer the vibrant shopping place it once was with so many shops having closed down. All the clubs that used to be great for nightlife in the town, have also closed down.

We were there for parkrun at Tredegar House, which is a place we love. Had we been staying for any longer we would have got the bus into Newport and explored the transporter bridge and other sites - next time.

I went for one night to see a football match, but had a wander round in the afternoon. Saw old ruins of a castle by the river but it looked all shut up and there was no boards stating if it were accessible. Nice new concourse on the riverbank by the millenium bridge, but some parts of the older town near the station are a bit seedy. Plenty of the new breed of town dweller,( foreign, young, male and unemployed)

The hotel was booked due to running the Newport marathon. On arrival we were upgraded to a king suite. A travel cot was provided for our 9 month old baby. The reception team were very welcoming and accommodating at all times. Every member of staff were friendly and couldn’t do enough for us. The hotel was very busy but nothing was too much trouble. The facilities were excellent and used the spa which was more than expected in terms of what was on offer. We would thoroughly recommend a stay here with a family.

Breakfast was good. I had a nice chat with the Sri Lankan man working in the restaurant. I love Sri Lanka. Good selection of food. We were finishing walking the 870 mile Wales Coast Path. Mercure Newport was a great place to stay. We liked the Welsh cakes, free on arrival! My pic shows the city view from the 12th floor.

It was a Rugby weekend trip. The hotel was beyond our expectations! Staff were friendly, bar snacks good, good range of beers! and the room and facilities were exceptional. Easy to get to Cardiff from the hotel, short taxi journey to Newport, and 15-20 minutes on the train.
