"I had a wonderful time in Newport. My favourite places were the beautiful waterfront, the city centre, and the peaceful parks, which were perfect for relaxing and sightseeing. I enjoyed eating at local cafés and restaurants, where I found a great variety of delicious meals and friendly service. Getting around Newport was easy. The public transport was reliable, and many attractions were within walking distance, making it convenient to explore the city. As a solo traveller, I enjoyed walking along the waterfront, visiting local shops, exploring historical sites, relaxing in parks, and trying different cafés and restaurants. Overall, Newport is a welcoming and enjoyable destination for solo travellers."

The room at Penarth Mairna was lovely and comfortable, think floating luxury hotel room surrounded by boats! The staff was great. We were a bit late to arrive and someone waited for us to let us in! Thank you so much. The marina area is very nice and it was pleasant to walk around and look at all the yachts. We would absolutely stay here again!

The staff were super friendly, helpful, and welcoming. The breakfast was really good and I really appreciate that they offered halal options for me every day. The location is great as well! Everything, from checking in at reception—where the lovely receptionist gave my daughter a little bag of treats—to settling into the beautiful room with a charming balcony overlooking the Christmas decorations, and finally enjoying dinner at the grill, was absolutely top-notch. Lovely town with some great pubs and restaurants and lovely old buildings including the famous Chepstow castle. A couple of the pubs and public spaces were a bit dodgy but you can spot them easily enough. We are going back again soon. The IL FIORE Italian restaurant in Nelson St. is excellent. The Boat Inn and the Three Tuns are also great pubs. Avoid the Beaufort Hotel- fine for a drink but not a great stay.

The island was smaller than expected.

The island was smaller than expected. Not all Gavin and Stacey locations were open. I was surprised by the lack of traditional pubs. Great pizza place called Valletta. Wouldn’t recommend the good shed, the food wasn’t good and it was expensive. Easy to walk around Barry and the island, but remember you are in wales so there will be hills.

We loved this little town.

We loved this little town. Lots of places to visit, too many for our short stay. My grandparents lived here and I last visited as a young man, some 40 years ago! The town itself has a lovely atmosphere with restaurants and bars in the area. We found a lovely menswear shop, Revue on Castle street, and this had some lovely clothing. We plan on returning more often

This was Ewenny, which is lovely.

This was Ewenny, which is lovely. Bridgend on the other hand is a dump; but if you look carefully you can find old churches (try 'New Castle' and 'Laleston', castles (try Coity), a new butterfly reservation near 'Old Castle', a few good restaurants, and a main line railway station (faster than car to London, Cardiff and Swansea). Outside the town there is plenty of interest, so you don't need to make Bridgend your base - just skip around it. Lots of super coastline, villages, hills and valleys, industrial archeology galore. Try the Vale of Glamorgan, steeped in Norman-knight history, and remnants of Victorian industrial revolution with its coal and iron exporting.

We didn’t spend too much time in Merthyr as we were sightseeing and visiting our daughters. We found there were lots of supermarkets and places to eat.
