We loved this stay. Everything from the room size in the Garden Suite, the natural lighting, the gorgeous bathroom and decor, the bed was comfortable and the staff were very welcoming and approachable. We ate in the bistro downstairs on several occasions and found the hotel to be in the most central location. Would absolutely stay again and refer to others. The roses blooming in the courtyard were just stunning!

We loved this property. It was a room in an old renovated farmhouse with polished floors and french doors opening onto a garden view with lots of birds. We were appreciative of the bottles of wines in the room available for purchase, especially as we were there when the area was on a high wind alert and the power was out for a few hours. The verandah was lovely to sit on and view the grape vines. The complimentary breakfast items left in the room were more than adequate and much appreciated. Also enjoyed the free wine tasting and chat with the owner of the vineyard. This was the property we enjoyed the most on our 10 day tour of New Zealand... and the town of Martinborough is lovely. We enjoyed a great meal at the pub.

Beautiful location and extremely comfortable rooms. We got a free upgrade to the Lakeside room, which was spacious, welcoming and well fitted out. The staff were very friendly and accommodating, helping us out with any questions or requests we had. The continental breakfast was delicious and had a range of options. We also greatly enjoyed the (not included) dinner at the adjoining York Bistro.

Martinbough is a lovely destination to visit.

Martinbough is a lovely destination to visit. Plenty of eateries and shopping. One thing I did notice was the amount of retail shops selling the same sort of things. Pricing was also on the high side. Other than that our visit was very enjoyable.

Friendly and helpful locals, especially the hospitality workers. Helpful bloke at the bike shop got us set up for whizzing around. Local drivers very careful and respectful of cyclists. Vineyards appeared to be doing a roaring trade, even in Winter. Helpful staff. All within 1.5hrs drive of Wellington Airport.

So cute, warm friendly people and gorgeous shops. Poppies winery was a stand out as were the cocktails and atmosphere at Cool change bar in town. Food and surroundings were stunning at palliser too. Great couples get away. Flat and easy to walk or cycle. We will be back!

We spent 3 full days staying in Martinborough, day 1 visit to Lake Ferry and Cape Palliser lighthouse , walk up the 254 steps for the amazing view of the wild coastline and mountains of the South Island, stop at the campground for fresh fish lunch. Check out bars and food in the town square. Day 2 Vineyard touring by bike, with wine tastings and amazing choices for lunch. Day 3 Drive to Featherston, morning market and bakery , shopping in Greytown. Late lunch and wine tasting at Poppies back in Marlborough for amazing platters

Martinborough is an accessible, friendly town with many good restaurants. I would recommend both the Aroma Indian restaurant and the Siam Kitchen. The Haythornthwaite Winery had good wine and snacks in beautiful vinyard.

Everything about The Savvy Retreat was perfect… the location was very quiet ( event for the bird scarers but that didn’t bother us) very close to Martinborough (5 mins in car) the property was very well equipped with plenty of space ( we were a couple but you’d easily accommodate 4 still with space to spare) the kitchen was fully equipped with cooker, fridge/freezer washing machine. The veranda was a wonderful outside space and the outside bath was magical.

The Brackenridge cottages are well located near Martinborough and the vineyards. The two bedroom cottages are well spaced, and a very good size with two bathrooms - both with under floor heating. The laundry facilities in the cottage were excellent, as were the continental breakfast provisions. The gym and pool facilities were also excellent.

We stayed here during a storm and the whole area had an electrical power outage. The owner went out of his way to boil a kettle on his camping stove so we could have a cup of tea in the morning, very welcome. Martinborough was easily walkable.
